How many remember the giant ezBoard hack, several years back? 9,000 message boards were wiped out. That was... not good. * They also kept "in-house backups"... too bad those were wiped out at the same time. Oh wow, I hadn't heard about that. > On May 31, 2005, ezboad claimed they were cracked, causing > many boards to lose information, become inaccessible, or be > completely wiped. ezboard stated that all historical post data and > a significant amount of backup data was erased. secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/EzboardThese are good hints-and-a-half that we should keep our eyes open for a method of backing up our board info. If our current board software doesn't allow us to do it, we might consider changing boards in the future - as long as the conversion can be done in less than a weekend. your friend in wanting backups, but not wanting to update boards anytime soon, arthur

Out of curiosity, ow do you back up forums or theads?
Is it maunaly, like right clicking a whole page and saving it as a word doc or some other type of format, then saving it to a hard drive? Like to know if thats how you do it or is that an anchient way of doing it.

Like to know if thats how you do it or is that an anchient way of doing it. john With our current forum, we have no feature to backup, so any type of backup would be a manual method like you describe. And that would be good enough to print a copy of the page, but it wouldn't help if the board was lost - it doesn't have all the link information to recreate a thread. "behind-the-scenes", there is a database of information that shows what posts are in what thread, and who wrote each post, at what time, etc. So a real "backup" is simply storing a copy of the giant database. You just hit a button "backup" and it stores everything at once. And then if you his "restore", it could re-create everything. It just like a backup for a hard drive. You could manually create a copy of each file, but its easier to just backup the entire drive with a backup program, and then be able to restore it easily onto a new drive. The sad thing is with this "proboard", they don't give us the backup function. So sometime, I think it would be good to investigate if/how we can get a board that: - posts can have at least one attachment - backup/restore function - private messaging - mods can move, close, and sticky threads - full-text search, author search, advanced search according to this board search tool www.forummatrix.org/search.phpthere are only two forums that match this criteria: community server deluxebb Now I really don't know anything about forum software, and I don't particularly like change, but I am keen to not lose our board info, so sometime we should figure out what features we really need, what we really want, and if it is worth the pain to move to make it happen, arthur

under the "dodge monaco stuff", we have
- Details on '74-'77 C-Body Monaco - Details on '74-'77 C-Body Monaco - Police
I propose adding the following subforums:
- Brochures - Performance
I can post my collection of Monaco brochures. I just got in the '76 monaco police brochure, and am working on '75 and '77. Huey had (at least part of) the '74 brochure on BBC we can put here, and I'm checking to see if that's the entire brochure.
Under performance, I can create threads on: - replacing front brakes with Viper calipers - replacing rear drums with discs - replacing front a-arms - subframe connectors
These things will only appeal to a small subset of folks, but that's what's great about having this info in an easy to find format. Easy to find info. Easy to ignore info that isn't of interest. It seems better than me just ramming into my Marin County thread and having the info hard to find.
Instead of "performance", I was thinking of "handling", but some performance things wouldn't directly affect handling (like a description of infinitely adjustable heim joint attachments).

Maybe it should be titled: "Upgraded Performance" or perhaps, "Upgrading Performance" ?
(That is unless you plan to also discuss the performance of the stock set-up as well)

Maybe it should be titled: "Upgraded Performance" or perhaps, "Upgrading Performance" ? (That is unless you plan to also discuss the performance of the stock set-up as well) Yes, that's a better idea. Maybe "performance and engineering modifications". Because some people (legitimately) wouldn't consider replacing rubber bushings with heim joints an "upgrade", but they'd certainly consider it a modification. One we pick something we can start populating it and see where it goes. I like how our "details" subforums have turned out. thanks, arthur

Once we pick something we can start populating it and see where it goes. Done. Title tweaking available anytime ... $2 bucks a tweak. ;D I like how our "details" subforums have turned out. [/size] Me too.--- Regarding the backup question, it's my understanding that ProBoards does a backup but I guess the question is - What happens if ProBoards implodes? - And I have no answer for that. If there's ever any serious consideration to moving to a different site for security peace of mind I'd have no problem with that at all.

How about a section called 'Bluesmobile Stories' or something? Just about every Blumo owner has at least one noteworthy adventure to tell about.

How about a section called 'Bluesmobile Stories' or something? Interesting. I like reading the stories. I suppose such a thread could snug into the "Bluesmobile Info" section. That's where I put SCMODS thread about his illegal Bluesmobile. Or, if an owner had a story to tell about their Blumo, you've already got threads going for your cars in the Owners section. But if you wanted a dedicated thread for stories then the Bluesmobile Info board is probably the best bet. Just needs someone with a story to start the thread.

I created the 74-77 c-body information annex for bluesmobiles.proboards.comhere: www.74monaco.comI put some brochures and articles online there. I'm not trying to make it fancy; just a place to store multi-page pieces of info. It seemed like the easiest way. I put references back here so that if someone finds that site through google, they can join us here. Once I get some more stuff in it, I'll start referencing it in the handling threads, but I thought I'd mention it now, so that ya'll would know what the heck it was if you found it. Eventually I'll get the 74-77 monaco cop brochures on-line there, as well as all the hi-res pics. Feel free to comment or offer suggestions. your friend in information access, arthur

How about a subboard titled something like: "Movie blumo part details"
The intent of the folder would be to house a thread on each blumo part, so that someone could use it to duplicate the movie blumo. For example, there would later be a thread on "rear bumper" that would show the morphs between the "Hero" bumper with bumperette holes, and the fall-apart bumper that didn't have them.
And there would be a thread on rear-view mirror, showing the various types of mirrors.
I LOVE the current folders showing "details on 74-77 c-bodies", and I don't want that to change. I see that folder as as a description of what was available on real cars.
This new folder would be somewhat like the catchall "morphing" thread. We could keep the morphing thread, but keep it to morphs like headlights breaking and fixing themselves. This new folder would just house threads on each part, even parts that don't change, showing what the blumo had.

Good idea, Art....I like the idea of a centralized location for strictly "movie" parts references...a lot of us want to make our cars as close as possible to the hero versions, and this would make it considerably easier to locate pertinent data. Wow..."pertinent data"...I sound like a freakin' M.I.T. brain.... Rob

How about a subboard titled something like: "Movie blumo part details" I called it, "Bluesmobile Parts - On Screen Details." Which of course can be tweaked, as long as the first word is Bluesmobile to appease my OCD, lol. ;D

I called it, "Bluesmobile Parts - On Screen Details." Awesome! I started it out, and will work through my list. This will be a good reference for those of us building a blumo, and also a good reference for those of us mapping out the 13 cars in the movie. I'm telling you, we can map the cars to each scene! your friend in believing, arthur
