But what's there now ain't so bad. Hi Steam: I'm not sure of all the legal issues involved, but users might be technically out of order by posting screen shots of the movie. That said, Universal probably doesn't care too much, since any individual user isn't making money off their post about airbrushed monaco emblems. Screen shots in individual posts adds a lot of information and I'm not proposing that we prohibit that. But I'm not sure that it's a good idea to include screenshots in the main advertisement for the board. We're not making money on the board, but it seems to be pushing the line, and someone may claim that the copyrighted screen shot on the board somehow implies endorsement or approval by Universal. For the board's splash page, could we do a pic of a member's car, maybe rotating through cars, or "car of the month". Maybe each month we could vote on the next "car of the month" from all the member blumo pics posted to the board the previous month. Anything that meets wikipedia's image guidelines would seem to be bulletproof: secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_use_policyBBC had copyrighted images as part of its splash page. And look what happened to it. I'm just throwing out ideas. This isn't a hot item for me. your friend in gauging item temperature, arthur

You make some good points, Arthur. Maybe all I need to do is mention that the image is copyright Universal Studios? I wonder how bluesmobile.net gets away with it? They use a pic of the Bluesmobile right in their logo ... --- There's no mention I can see of Universal anywhere on their page - www.bluesmobile.net/(If the link takes you to a web-ring page just hit it again and it loads right up.) Mr. and Mrs. Blues do include copyright info on their page - bluesmobile.info/index.htmlAnd Blues Brothers Central has copyright info as well. Incidentally that site was never shut down, only the message boards. All other features have remained intact. Then there's the countless videos on youtube with the Bluesmobile. I don't recall seeing any copyright info on them, although it's not something I've ever specifically looked for. I must say, the more I think about using a members car image for our logo, and change it every month, does sound like a cool idea. As long as the owners were on board with it. Of course my preference would be to have an actual movie Bluesmobile up there. As always, I'm open to feedback. I think that at the very least, if we want to keep a movie Blumo pic up, I should have some copyright info somewhere just to be safe. Any other members have any suggestions or input? I'd hate to get a red card from Proboards and be suspended or something. That would not be cool.

Hi Steam: It may not matter much from a legal perspective, but it strikes me that an unmodified screenshot seems pushing the edge more than just incorporating part of a copyrighted image into a new logo. To me, this: seems that it could indicate something official, whereas this: seems to say "I made this up myself; it's not sponsored by Universal". What about something like this: I should tell you, I'm just kidding, because I took the logo from these guys: www.merchantcircle.com/business/STEAM.McQUEEN.770-732-0495/picture/view/1477780your friend in new logos, arthur

Oh yes, I forgot about all the other features such as front page late breaking news that Steve Cropper is about to release a new album (posted 462 days ago). I always thought that was funny.

I like the idea of doing a members car of the month on our page.. But not as our logo, I think it should be a car from the movie. Im not sure about the copyrights, and what not... Prolly wouldnt be a bad idea to put the copyright info somewhere.
Not sure of the setup of the main page, and how extreme you can get with putting pics in certain places.. Maybe you guys could put a car of the month pic, and info right below the forums section, and above the info center?
Or put one on the right side of the page on top, next to the main blumo pic. Split them up, and have your message (PM's) in the middle. Just a thought..
I nominate Johns (chitownjohn) car as the 1st car of the month! For september ofcoarse! lol -zac

I like that idea but I can only get one pic in there. After I saw the new Wecrash page on Proboards I liked the idea of having a wide logo up at the top but it appears there needs to be some extra code entered to do that. Most stuff seems easy enough to do but I can't figure that one out lol. Since there seems to be no interest on a members car being featured each month I'm going to rotate pictures of a real Bluesmobile. I can't make it too wide or it scrunches up the info in that bar and looks crappy. The size there now is 400x225 and I can probably go a bit wider but not too much. I'll make a thread with a disclaimer and hopefully that should cover our asses.

Three people told me that the site seemed > too obsessed with the finest details of the car, when all they > wanted to do was paint it black and white... I don't want to stop recording the minute differences between 74-77 monacos, or morphs between the movie bluesmobile, but we're doing something wrong if the details scare new people into thinking that replicas require that level of detail analysis. Before we had the 74-77 differences forum, we continually got the question "what's the differences". And now that we have the forum we get the report "why so wrapped up in the differences". I'm not sure what to do about it, but I think we should try and do something. The forum block: > Details on '74-'77 C-Body Monaco has the description: > Monaco differences between the years. Would it be good to change that to a long-winded description: > Monaco differences between the years. Don't be turned off by > excessive levels of details. This is mainly for storage of > information, restoration of cop cars, and extreme bluesmobile > replication. Maybe a sticky in that forum, or a sticky in the main forum, or a statement by the copyright area at the bottom of the main page? Maybe nothing needs to be done. I'm just throwing out ideas. I certainly feel for new folks, because many of the posts that are best suited to getting into the hobby are on BBC, and so far we're not reinventing the wheel. your friend in a fun site for all, arthur

Under > Dodge Monaco Stuff we have the forum > Details on '74-'77 C-Body Monaco and I love it.
How about adding a second forum: > Details on '74-'77 C-Body Monaco - police specific
I'm thinking we can create threads on: - front spring hanger - non-ISO axle mount - F43 spotlight reinforcement tab - F58 rear crossmember reinforcement - subframe ground strap
We can move these threads into it - dual snorkels - ticket light - antenna blockoff - power brake booster - spotlight handle orientation - rear sway bar
And move this thread from the bluesmobile info forum into this new 74-77 c-body police details: - oil/temp gauge info
And move these threads from the bluesmobile info forum into the 74-77 c-body standard details: - mufflers - axle shaft flange
It would just make it easier to pick out the police specific stuff.

I did some quick searching and it looks like we have no ability to make backups of the site. support.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=support&thread=339299&post=3817204> You cannot, at this time, obtain a backup of your forum, however, > we run regular weekly inhouse backups of all of our servers. Proboard's promise that they'll always have backups available is not what I'm looking for. Recall this post I made on BBC: www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum/topic/7238-140mph-certified-speedo-restoration-feedback/page__view__findpost__p__115357> I sure hope the bluesbrotherscentral operators make regular > backups. There was > > no backup. www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2008/02/It turns out that "I can always come back for reference" was incorrect. This page: www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2346720,00.asp#fbid=TsQSS2HDhXk had good info on how to easily backup one's photobucket pics using "Migratr". So I'll use that to make monthly backups of my personal photobucket pics. But I'd still like to do something for site backups. your friend in archived info, arthur

How many remember the giant ezBoard hack, several years back? 9,000 message boards were wiped out.
That was... not good.
* They also kept "in-house backups"... too bad those were wiped out at the same time.
