Well...if I can't have the real radio, at least I can have a photo of it to tape to my dashboard... ;D Rob hehee, that's funny. Actually, now that I think about it - it would be kinda cool if you didn't want to cut up your dash - just get a life-size picture of the 8-track and tape it there. You'd get my vote at a car show!

Out of curiosity, how do we know for sure that it was the S601 and not the S603 or S608? All three of these look identical (to me anyways) with an 8-Track installed. The only differences I see are the faces and design of the tuner. If memory serves correct, I don't remember seeing any screenshots of the player without an 8-track installed. I was just wondering where we all came to the conclusion that the S601 was the definitive end all, be all of players...

I was just wondering where we all came to the conclusion that the S601 was the definitive end all, be all of players... Hi Legendary: I believe the consensus is that it is a S601 or S608, and we don't have enough detail in the hero pic to solidly pick one over the other. Here's a link: bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=parts&thread=193&post=2511I think people commonly say S601 because we found that first, and only years later found that the S608 was also compatible. I also happen to > ...think it looks more like just a "dot" (s601) than a "dot plus dash" > (s608), but I readily admit it's not definitive and it could be either. It can't be a S603, as the S603 doesn't have the screw or dot/dash below the right shaft. Ah, I see. So for all intensive purposed (but not screen accuracy) the 603's faceplate is the same, just not the sheet metal under the dials. I do have to say, if I can throw my two cents into this discussion, that I'd have to pick the 608 as screen accurate. Now I'm no good at posting new images to the boards and what not so hopefully my description will be enough. In both the blu ray and DVD screen caps of the hero shot, you can clearly see 4 screws that go into the sheet metal, in the 4 corers of the faceplate. In the bottom picture of the 608, to the left of the "dot, dash) you see two screws, one that looks like it does nothing, and one with a black plastic piece behind it. I believe this plastic piece is clearly shown in the movie, and I haven't seen a 601 with these screws, in that position, with the plastic piece behind them. I hope that was descriptive enough without pictures. -Bryce
**EDIT** I just saw the picture on the first page of the 601 for sale, and can clearly see that black plastic piece. All the other pictures I saw were straight on and I guess just a bad angle for what I was talking about. With this info, the dot, slash does seem to be the most compelling piece of evidence...

I'm not a "stereo specialist", by any means, but what are odds that Craig is using the same metal chassis for the 6XX series, and the plastic facia/knobs/trims are the only variances between the models?

It would make picking different ones to be more screen accurate but unfortunately, if you look at the pictures of the 601 and 608 versus the 602, or even the 681, there's a pretty clear difference between the chassis...

For some more pics, in this thread, in this post: bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=parts&thread=193&post=2511I referred to this post: www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum/topic/9495-8-track-player-questions-and-answers/page__view__findpost__p__119108on the BBC archives, where I posted these pics showing my S601 (top) as compared to a S608 on e-bay (bottom). There are several differences in the chassis, even the depth is different, but the only difference I could see on the front is the dot/dash difference. Later, I was able to compare a S601 and S608 up close, and still the only difference I could see that might indicate what was used in the movie was the dot/dash difference. There could be something else, but I didn't notice anything. your friend in pics, pics, pics, arthur

Here: www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum/topic/9495-8-track-player-questions-and-answers/page__view__findpost__p__119137TK826 posted: ------------ S603 is nearly identical to the 01 & 08, but has different labels for the buttons. 604 - Rectangle LED's and no buttons, (and no L/R slider switch) 605 - Identical to 604. 606 - Digital face, round LED's, no L/R slider switch. 607 - Digital face, rectangle LED's (moved to left side), no L/R slider switch. 608 - (Unknown). 609 - Non-digital, Rectangle LED's (back on right side), 5 black buttons. ------------ So it seems that we're not going to find any more Craigs coming out of the woodwork that might be candidates. Compatible with movie based on face: S601, S603, S608 Note, I'm not saying they all have the same face. I'm saying that they're all compatible with the movie (only the EJECT label can be read, and an 8-track is in the player). Compatible with movie based on face and holes in case under right shaft: S601, S608 Compatible with movie based on dot/dash under right shaft: I personally think the S601 is the most likely candidate, but accept that it might be an S608.

And since my previous buyer backed out, I still have a 608 for sale at the same price.
