Pulled the plant yesterday. I was quietly hoping I could get away with bolting on another extension housing; seems that ain't gonna happen! Its not an illusion how bent that output shaft is.

More Trophies! After the early ending in the spring race, I disassembled the Imperial 440, gave it a quickie hone, rings and bearings and after throwing in a shift kit, bolted on a fresh 727. We melted the potting of the factory electronic ignition box at NJMP so that's been replaced by an MSD 6AL. It's been exactly a year since we debuted the car at Thompson and we finally got it to take a checkered flag! Third(!) in class and 42nd overall (out of 111) wasn't quite good enough for IOE, but I refuse to be disappointed in earning a trophy. Judges Choice! Even the tired junkyard cop suspension is a noticible improvement over the flimsy civilian stuff. The car is far more chuckable than I could have imagined. I wrung a 1:44.4 laptime out of it which, while probably 20 sec off the fast lap of the race, was not the slowest fast-lap of the entire field. Three races in and she earned her first battle scar, absorbing a Taurus SHO whom overcooked it into a corner. The soft, rusty trunk pocket and fenderwell caused the RR quarter to cave in, but we were able to kick most of it out from in the trunk. Photo courtesy Ben Booy The rebuilt 440 thundered around without protest, except for leaking tremendous amounts of oil, but is being held back by the Thermoquad. Despite my best efforts, its just not happy being thrown around a racetrack. A Holley 750 HP is destined to top off the plant, along with some 440Source heads and cam. Photo courtesy Ben Booy Underneath, the cheapo Monroe shocks are hilariously overwhelmed so I've been eyeballing the Bilsteins sold through FirmFeel. With the effort I put into ripping the suspension from the junkyard A38 Gran Fury, I'm determined to see that combination through, but I could really use a rear sway bar. Anyone have a line on a factory rear swaybar setup? Lets talk $$$.

My thermoquad likes to lean out on some of the hills around here in pittsburgh - I've tried messing with the float level to no avail I'm not sure what the deal is - I've had the whole thing apart a couple times.

I have the FF bilsteins on my car and I bet you will see a huge improvement. FirmFeel also has nice front and rear sway bars. Installation was a breeze, Id recommend those as well.

My thermoquad likes to lean out on some of the hills around here in pittsburgh - I've tried messing with the float level to no avail I'm not sure what the deal is - I've had the whole thing apart a couple times. I've ripped the thing apart and fiddled with the secondary air door far more times than I can count. I've got it working almost perfectly on the flat and level but it still sputters and falls flat around hard corners. The whole secondary is just slow to react to the incessant throttle demands of the racetrack without a secondary accelerator pump. I can keep fiddling with it or just move to a Holley which I am far more proficient. Its a shame though, I've acquired several TQs over the past months which will now just sit on the parts shelf. I may try to de-choke-ify one and crank the float level all the way up before I give up for good. Spanks, thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely order up those Bilsteins before the next race. The anti-roll bars might be a down-the-line thing, I'm mad I missed the cop rear bar on eBay a couple months ago for half the price!

"Are you musicians?" " No ma'am, we are a race team!" Good luck this weekend and watch out for Big Daddy. That thing could rollover on you. Spyeaux Attachments:

Part 12(?): Finally! Apologies for lack of updates, life keeps managing to get in the way. But between all the BS, we found time go racing again, and the Fury didn't disappoint. Index of Effluency! The biggest prize in 24 Hours of Lemons. All the plans I'd had for the car went out the window (as usual) due to lack of time, with the exception of the carburetor. I offloaded my collection of Thermoquads and after working with Holley, bolted on a 670 CFM Street Avenger. I was insistent it was too little carb, but damn was I wrong. Tuning the primary accelerator pump took a while, but what a difference it made. With the secondaries open, wide-open-throttle down the front stretch, the glasspack'd, long-tube'd 440 was, by an order-of-magnitude, the loudest thing on the track. From the drivers seat and over the radio, it sounds like a Cup stock car. Its almost certainly over the dB limit, but nobody complains The ability to mash the throttle without bogging meant I could put down pretty respectable lap times too. Despite the street tires, the automatic transmission and the car's weight, I was only about ~5 seconds a lap slower than our hot-rod 351w Fox-body Thunderbird on the same track. Few cars could keep up on the straights. Steering and braking feel are hilariously absent, but the car can be driven. Speaking of which, the abuse finally succeeded in overwhelming the front brakes. With 30-minutes to go, the linings of the race pads burned away and the brake pedal went straight to the floor, fortunately during a full course yellow. I finished the race with the backing plates directly acting upon the discs. Credit where its due to Carbotech, I got 4 races over 2 years from one set of pads. I'll just have to give them more attention in the future. Sadly the car became sort of a punching bag, absorbing more hits in one race than we've had in years. A Ford Festiva "SHOgun" used our same damaged RR quarter as a braking zone, caving it all the way into the trunk. I'm gonna have to cut in a new quarter as the RR tire is now half exposed. Contact with a Civic hatchback battered up the passenger doors. It now looks like the derby car it was once destined to become. But the Gran Fury will return! Three trophies with the same car is insane, but I still want a Class-C win. The "plan" is to be at Carolina Motorsports Park in the fall and Road Atlanta in December. (an appearance at the 24-hour in Houston isn't completely ruled out either) Watch this space.

Northeast races are notorious for their aggressiveness. The other team quickly accepted responsibility for the incident which crunched the quarter (I should post the video), but neither party (read: me) wanted to take blame for the dent in the door. I was overtaking on the outside of a corner (because horsepower) and (I thought) I left him enough room. He didn't agree. Unfortunately it was late in the day and the battery on the GoPro was dead, so we'll never know. We met up after the race and shook hands. I had him sign the dent. No harm, no foul

Can't believe its been a year since the last update!
#21 is quickly becoming the fastest, yet ugliest Bluesmobile around these parts...
After failing to capture a class win last season, our "excuse" was obviously a lack of horsepower
440Source Stealth heads and a Hughes "Whiplash" cam was clearly the answer. And it was all well and good until the water pump belt fell off and the temperature went to 270 degrees
Quickly exhausting the world's supply of 440s...
Ever Forward!
