Big day. Loaded the 440 in El Ranchero Grande, Trooped up to North Phoenix, and dropped it off at Duffee Motorsports. A local legend in high performance, and trusted with top level muscle and vintage race cars, they were the natural choice. Pics from the shop: -AZB

Only six months, but par for the course with popular 2 man shops; read, busy. Brian sent me the first progress pic, the block after being line honed. It'll clean up at .020, and big things are in store for this build. Big tire smoking things. -AZB

Busy shop indeed, a good thing I've got other projects going. Block, .020 and deck plate honed: Heads: Original seats were trashed from the water sitting in the engine, so new hardened seats were put in all around. Considerable bowl and short radius blending: Transmission rebuilt by Hughes, mild converter and servo, all the best stuff I am told, I know almost nothing of the black art of automatic trannies. -AZB

I can't imagine what all this good stuff costs.I'm very happy my BluMo runs as good as it does.

The answer is a lot, which is some of the reason that this build hasn't happened very fast. I'm lucky in that I got the car 8 years ago in great shape back when they were cheap, complete with all the '74 cop stuff; so I didn't have to put much into the body or rare parts, just the drive train. It also came with the 38K mile 440 and 727, and I wasn't planning to do all of this, but the previous owner left the engine in the rain, and two of the bores got soaked so a rebuild was necessary. After it's mechanically dialed in, the rest should go pretty fast.

Thanks Steam. Burnouts? Hell Yes! I like 'em big and billowy, with so much smoke that someone's grandma calls the fire department.

Update: I got the wiring harness and A/C lines out of the way to start sanding and cleaning the engine bay for the color change to black. I welded a hole up above the heater blower case, caused by crud sitting in the cowl floor area and soaking the metal. Still have another small hole to do, firewall was near mint otherwise. Draped the wiring harness over the roof, went all the way to the back window. I'll mask around it, because it looks like all kinds of fun pulling it from under the dash.
