Anyone know exactly what parts are required from a '74 Monaco to make a '75-'77 Royal look like a '74? Obviously fenders, header, front bumper, grille and headlight frames, and I'm assuming headlamp mount panels. Are the radiator supports the same? What about bumper mounts/shocks? I'm looking to build a quick, cheap as possible Bluesmobile just for fun for my daughter who loves the movie. That's why I wanted to buy the '90 BB2000 movie car, and I'd love to buy LV's but it's just too much to invest in a car I'm doing as a toy for her (not that it's not a good deal). She wouldn't know the difference if I did a Fury or Royal or even a Torino honestly but I am anal so it has to be a Monaco sedan body with a '74 nose, a tan interior, and without vent windows. Exterior wise I want it as screen accurate as possible, inside as long as it's tan I won't care. Most likely I'll put a 140 or 14o speedo in it, and possibly an 8 track cut in the a/c vent but I won't go crazy over cop door panels, seat patterns, ect. So far I think I've located both fenders and a header panel so possibly I'm on my way.

I'm on the phone, so can't get too detailed, or post pics. But will later. You will need the headlight brackets/mounts. The radiator core support will work from a royal, just need too drill 4 extra holes for the headlight mounts. If using a 74 bumper, you will need the bumper shocks for it aas well. Everything else will work just fine.
My car has '76 royal inner fenders, core support, and driver side fender, everything was pretty strait forward with it.

Thanks. I hopefully will find a '74 or '75 and won't need to do this, I'm just keeping my options open. I will probably buy the '74 fenders, header and bumper if they are still available and the sellers are willing to ship reasonably.

If using a 74 bumper, you will need the bumper shocks for it aas well. What is the difference in the bumper shocks, length or mounting surface? Would Fury shocks work instead? I'm eye balling a couple of ads and the Washington '77 is looking good, tan interior, no vent windows, price and all I just have to check on the '74 parts I found during the week, they are from several different sources all over the midwest. I won't make a move until I know about the '74 Police Monaco in CT though.

The length I believe. Theres a pic on here somewhere where a member swapped a 74 front clip on, but still had the royal bumper on. Was sticking out from the front quite a bit.

Heres a shot of the royal core support. Only major difference is the big round hole, for the air inlet in the right. Had to drill 4 holes. 2 on each side for the inner headlight bracket bolts. Everything together.

So if i get in a situation where I can't find any '74 shocks I can probably cut and weld the '77 shocks somehow. Thanks for the info.

I remember that picture as well. I would say that in the worst case you could fab some bumper mounts out of some box tubing and just forgo the shock feature. I think the biggest challenge in doing a front end conversion is simply finding good sheet metal to work with. Good 74-75 fenders are hard to come by, that's why most have started converting royal fenders over to non royal by grafting the nose of a base fender onto a royal fender.

OK, found both fenders, no rust but the right one is pretty beat up, a header, lots of grilles, H/L frames and mount panels, and a rechromed bumper with no guts or shocks. The nose without the bumper will cost around $1400 with shipping, seems expensive for beat up old parts. Also the fenders are off of a woodgrain wagon, lots of trim holes. What do you guys think?

Take what you can get. These parts arnt falling out of trees. Plus they are gettong harder and harder to find. But its up to you. If you get a royal for $1500, then your at $3000. Not a bad price for a "correct" car IMO.

Ok, thanks. So far I have found 3 rt fenders so maybe one of the others will be cleaner, only one left, 3 sets of headlight doors, and about 10 grilles. I have a guy with a complete bumper assy supposed to get back to me. And the Royal is actually $1,000 more, the car is in Washington and I'm in NY so I have to have it shipped. If I had more money I would stock up on all of this that I found. Once I get what I need I'll pass on the sources to anyone who wants. One more question, is the trim over the tail lights on these part of the T/L assy or a separate piece? I have to get tail lights if this deal works out but don't know if I should ask for just assys or assys and the trim above. Also is the Royal gas door different or just a piece of trim over the door? Thanks for all of the info guys.

These are the parts I found. Wow. Great find on the old wagon. You're going about it like a lot of people will have to do now to build their own Blumo. Start with a Royal Monaco sedan (while they're still around) and search like hell for the '74 clip. Congrats, Adam. Exciting stuff.
