Maybe the seller has seen some "old Craig radios" go for big bucks (the S601s), and some sell for low bucks (the non-S601s), and hasn't figured out the mapping, and hopes this one goes sky high.

Couldn't help but notice that those don't look like the proper knobs...

Well, I got the 601 I have back in working order. The condition is a little rough and it has an issue with balanced output, but it plays 8-track tapes well and would make an excellent display prop wired up to the old central speaker; This is what I may do with it in my install.
If interested, I'll sell it at a bargain price.
Anyone else consider wiring up the central speaker to the 8-track player for show and then having a hidden stereo wired up to the rear speakers and two smaller speakers in the two openings on the front right and left of the dash?

The route I was planning on taking was hiding a modern radio, hooked up to all the speakers in the car, than splicing one of the output speaker wires from the 8-track player to an auxiliary cord plugged into the new radio...

That's an interesting idea; the only problem is that if the output is too high on the 8-Track player, it can overload the modern stereo. Now, I don't know for sure if the output on the 8-Track player would be too powerful without measuring it and comparing it to the rating of the input on the newer stereo, so it may very well work without an issue.

That's a good point, LV. Legendary, I ran my speaker outs through a box that converted them to line-level outputs, designed for use with an aux in. More info: www.bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=owners&thread=45&post=8345That setup worked well for me (in tests on the floor). It might also work running the outputs directly, but it sounds (to me) like a scary way to go.

Arthur's way is definitely the more high-tech solution and, if you're going to run a modern stereo, it's the better way to go.
My alternative is for those who wish to have an easy install using what's already in place without the risk of blowing out your new stereo or spending extra money. I've spent more than I'd care to rebuilding my engine and buying parts, so I'll save a little on stereos and listen to that beautiful 440.
The reason that you have to consider the output from the 8-Track player is because they work as an amplifier in addition to a stereo; hence the term Stereo Amplifier that has since faded out to merely Stereo.
The reason that you have to be careful is because it's a series install. With a series install an amplifier that increases your output 10 times and then couple that to another amplifier that also increases your output 10 times, you get a combined output that is 100 times stronger. You'd then, in effect, be using the volume knob on the 8-Track as a resistor and, if you turned it up too high, the voltage that would be passed on to the second stereo and, potentially, to the speakers, could be enough to blow out your entire system, though, it's far more likely that it would merely fry your output leads on your secondary stereo.

Good points, I had never even thought of that! On the plus side, there's plenty of room in the dash for whatever I amy need!

One day left on the eBay S601 and it's already at $217.50. That's just CRAZY!
I'm making one last offer here for the one that I have; $75.00 plus shipping, before I put it up on eBay in a week or so.

And my S601 is sold and will be going to a board member. I'm glad to keep these available to the Bluesmobile community at a reasonable price.
