Anyone have any step-by-step instructions on how to break down the interior, without breaking anything? My primary concern is getting the headliner down. I tried removing the trim pieces around the top but they seemed to be stuck in place. Same thing with the sail panels. I understand parts "fuse" together over time, I just want to make sure I don't start snapping things because I missed a screw...

Hi Legendary: The 1974 Dodge Body and Chassis manual has a section on the headliner, and has pics and the steps to remove/replace. I consider that, and the parts catalog, must-have reference materials. If you have particular concerns, though, feel free to post some pics, and I'll try to offer any ideas. your friend in being simultaneously appreciative of the hackery of the fabric monstrosity headliner, and infuriated at the difficulty of installation, arthur

Over the weekend the thought occurred to me that I have no idea how a headliner would be removed or installed from one of these cars without removing either the windshield or back glass. So I did a search and came upon this thread and it seemed as good as place as any to ask the question.
I have 2 cars (well 1 1/2 cars) and neither has a headliner in it. I suppose removing it is no big deal if you don't care about keeping it in one piece. I for the life of me can't imagine stuffing the thing thru an open door. I am not terribly concerned with this right now as 1. I don't have a headliner for my car yet. 2. I'm not sure where I am going to find one any time soon. 3. If I get a headliner, I have the glass out of the car now, an likely will for a while. So for now it is just a matter of curiosity.

Im not a %100 sure, but the 74's are fabric held in by springs to the roof arnt they?
The 75's and up are the one piece cardboard backing type units. You can get them in/out easily through the front passenger door if this is the type you are talking about? Had the old one out/new one in, in minutes.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression they were all cardboard units.
I'm shocked to find out that it will fit thru a door.

Maybe instead of a housing, you'd like a set of headliner bows. I was thinking then you'd likely do your headliner before me, and I could wait for you to post all the info and copy your lead. But then I thought instead of me sending them to you loose, and each of us independently getting headliners made, we'd likely save money by doing it together (doing a bulk purchase). And maybe some other folks would be interested in getting new tan headliners made, too. Well, it's something to think about. I put in a sample request with www.smsautofabrics.com/for all of their 1974 gold / parchment fabric / vinyl samples. Even those for the Monaco Grougham: and those that looked blue: your friend in new headliners that don't rain carcinogenic insulation, arthur

Arthur, that sounds like a plan that might work. Espically if the "bulk discount" deal works out. No sence in making two custom orders. Honestly until this thread I thought all headliners were the formed cardboard type and that getting an aftermarket replacement of reproduction would be an impossibility. In the back of my mind I was thinking I would be buying another car to be able to finish this thing, but it looks like it is slowly coming together.

Hi Spanks: If you have flexibility in the screen accuracy department, that formed cardboard type of headliner beats the 74 headliner 6 ways to Sunday, and it fits right in: Scatpack writes: > my 74 has a interior from a 77 civilian model... I didn't have any problems swapping everything over. www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum/topic/8327-theres-a-new-marin-county-sheriff-in-town/page__st__20#entry110996As for obtaining a cardboard type headliner, it might not be that hard. I've had good success looking on "wecrash" for cars for sale for demo derby. You just need to find a fairly decent car, before they've totally stripped it, and willing to sell you that one part you need. your friend in part hunting, arthur

Sounds good. You are correct I am not stuck on a certain type of headliner or carpet or even door panels, as the casual observer will never notice those things. However, after seeing blusmbl's work on his dash I am now convinced I need a Craig in the dash. I am keeping my eyes out for a good parts source. We crash is great, I search there frequently as every thing I need those guys would be throwing away. I would love to find a car with a decent interior, I hate to invest more money in parts cars but it seems that, that really is the best bang for the buck when trying to piece one of these together esp between interior bits and pieces and door / window guts. Either way I would be curious to see how much they want for a repo headliner.
