Man, I love this board!
Here:
bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=diecast&action=display&thread=492
AZBlues posted pics of a new Monaco model.
And then 440RULEZ posted pics showing that his car was used as the basis for the model!
bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=diecast&thread=492&post=2938
As part of that discussion, 440RULEZ posted pics of his red-line hubcaps, saying:
> As far as I remember the hub caps with the red line are police-
> specific.
I then posted some hubcap info:
----------------
I see that the 1974 parts catalog shows the hubcap as 2944454:
but doesn't list any options or even have it in the index.
I see that part number listed as:
2944454 -- 1971-74 L J W D HUB CAP-ALUMINUM
www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=92
This place has one for sale, but it doesn't specify color.
www.collectorsautosupply.com/query.asp?make=MOPAR&year=0§ion=WHEELS
Maybe it was the same part number for the unpainted hubcap, and it was later painted however desired.
----------------
Now today, I was reading the January 2012 issue of "Hemmings Muscle Machines" and saw an article on a 1969 Dodge Charger 500 that originally came with these same red-line dog dish hubcaps.
I have no experience to state that red-line hubcaps could come on a civilian car, but I expect that the owner of this car would, or the author of the article, or the editor, or some savvy ready would tear the article to shreds. So I'm going to say that red-line were not police specific (at least across different models/years). Maybe they were police specific for 1974-1977 Monacos.
