New user here, apologies if this isn’t allowed. I was surfing through Copart auctions and found a very nice P72 with only 82,000 that will sell to the highest bidder on Friday, September 3 in Long Beach. I’m in Tennessee and not ready to pull the trigger on something like this, but I’d hate for it to sell for almost nothing to a car recycler or something! Auction listing is here: www.copart.com/lot/53565121/salvage-1991-ford-crown-victoria-s-ca-long-beachSomeone needs to buy this car!

- Welcome, thanks for posting this beauty Crown Vic. I've been wondering for many years if such a beast existed. And by that I mean a P72 with an 85 mph speedo. I recall reading years ago that there were two versions of a P72, a fleet package and a police package, with the police having the 140 certified speedo and the fleet having an 85 speedo. For some reason I thought the 85 was also a certified speedo but that's not the case here. I can only assume that they didn't certify the 85mph Fleet speedometers because they were for security guard work or taxis, stuff like that. Not for police duty. ? There's an anomaly with the parking light lens under the headlights, in 1991 they were clear, not amber. The '88-'90 Vic's were amber. They might have been swapped at some point, absolutely for sure we have seen amber lens on a '91, but da fact of da matter is they are not accurate to a '91. I was starting to wonder if this isn't a '91 at all but maybe just the passenger door is from a '91, with the P72 tag. So I checked that paint code, KA, and it is indeed for the Crystal Blue Metallic so that's a match. This is a very interesting find and I don't know what to make of it, lol. For anyone who doesn't give a crap about all that and just wants to create a BB2000 Bluesmobile, it has the blue interior you're after. I notice the advance bidding is already up to $950. Thanks again for posting this one.

I also wondered about the 85MPH speedo but don’t know how Ford would differentiate between models. I think you’re right that they made special service units for detectives, taxis and other purposes. I assume since this is in Long Beach, it was a California car, which could explain the area cut out on the sun visor? CA requires a steady red light on all emergency vehicles (maybe they still do?), and this might be where a light was mounted. There’s additional insulation under the hood, which I’ve never seen in a police or base model. Either it was added later or a special order from the factory. That dash looks great for the age and this would be an excellent restoration or tribute project for someone.

There’s additional insulation under the hood, which I’ve never seen in a police or base model. Lots of stuff doesn't compute with this one. 99% of the Vics posted here are P72 police, and we have a small handful of P73's and P74's but since we don't post civilian models when I see this "Limited Edition" ornament (or badging or what have ya) on the grille, I'm thinkin' what the Hell is that ? It's not something you would expect to see on a Fleet model. They wouldn't have that on a taxi, would they ?? I have a feeling the VIN in the lower window of this car doesn't match the VIN on the door lol. What if somewhere along the way some body shop ordered a passenger door in Crystal Blue Metallic for this 1990 Vic they were repairing. The local yard said we have one but it's from a '91 cop car. Body shop says send 'er . This Copart car might be a 1990 P73. Wouldn't that be crazy ! Anyone live near the yard ... 1000 E. LOMITA BLVD. WILMINGTON, CALIFORNIA

I think there’s some added bling on this one. There’s either a small crown emblem or Optimus Prime head centered on the back of the trunk and above the Crown Vic emblems on the side. It appears a Limited Edition badge is also on the lower passenger side of the trunk lid. Those MUST be aftermarket!

- The car sold, the Optimus Prime head put it over the top . Just before the page fully loads at Copart, after a car is sold, you get a quick look at the "current bid" and I believe what we're seeing there is the highest bid. That's the area of the page that in less than one second after that, loads red and says "SOLD" and you no longer see that price. If you anticipate that moment before it turns red/SOLD, you can grab a shot of it ... So I can't say for sure that's the final sale price but I'm pretty sure that's the final sale price.

Hello All, On speedometers for the Fords, I would have liked to have know the tire size. The p72 Police/Taxi model had P225/70R15 tires that would pair up with the 140mph spedometer, the 85mph model would have had a different tire size 205 of 215. Neat car, hopefully saved for some sort of restoration, not the county fair.
On vin number years KX is for 1989, LX is for 1990, MX is for 1991, so they are correct that is was a 1991 built in 1990.
Lenses, they crack over time, and amber is easier to find replace verses clear (only made for 1991)
I still as of today have a 1991 in my yard (NO Start) , but a police edition if interested PM me.
Bling yes it is certainly limited as every year goes by less and less are around.
