Anyone notice that the A/C compressor and brackets are missing? I was looking at the pictures and at first thought "That's odd, no A/C" and then I saw the lines and other a/c components on the right side fenderwell. And not to be nit picky but the engine is supposed to be blue.

Shouldn't the interior be tan for a CHP car? I'm not an expert but it seems any other CHP car I have seen had a tan interior. Either way the car is still awesome!

There's another '73 CHP Polara out there with a gray/black interior that I know of and I know '69 Polaras had gray so I think the tan interiors started in '74. And as you said it's an awesome car. And not to be nit picky but the engine is supposed to be blue. I believe you're right. Should look like this ... It would appear the last year for the orange was 1971 ... - www.turbinecar.com/misc/enginecolor.htmAlthough I'm only going by a bit of searching as a reference. Certainly not first hand knowledge. --- There's another '73 CHP Polara out there with a gray/black interior that I know of This one? - www.kumhyr.com/topics/david/ponch/

Yup And another thing I just noticed, the car for sale has the wrong spotlight handles, they.re supposed to be ivory like the pic above.

Over 5 days to go and at almost $6,000, over my limit. I can't believe it went this high this fast needing as much work as it seems to. The head gasket problem could very well be a cracked head or block and if I was bidding I'd assume the worst on that. I still love it but aside from being broke the car has hit the limit I would pay for it if I had the money right now. I wonder how high it's going to go.

I had forgotten about the spotlight handles also being ivory. I was looking at a '73 Polara from CHiPs, is that what I'm seeing in this pic? An ivory spotlight handle? I loved CHiPs, definitely one of my favourite shows back in the day. - www.imcdb.org/vehicle_48770-Dodge-Polara-1973.html

I actually tried to buy this '73 Polara CHP last year just before I bought the Mendocino County Gran Fury The car has 200,000 miles on it, has some rust starting around the rear glass, burns oil, and after I asked for a price several times the guy threw $15,000 at me. I understand that I pursued him to buy his car but I figured $7,000 or $8,000 tops. He had advertised it before for sale and it hadn't sold, and it was on ebay a couple of years ago and never hit it's reserve. I don't understand why people (sellers and obviously buyers) think that CHP cars have some sort of magic that other 440 powered police package cars don't. They're all basically the same.

Here's a Q & A from the listing Q: Hello, I am the current high bidder. You wrote the head gasket leaks. Do you mean the cylinder head gasked or just the exhaust mainifold gasket? Best regards Carsten A: Hi Carsten, thanks for your interest. It is the cylinder head gasket, but it is not leaking into the combustion chamber, it's leaking out onto the exhaust manifold. How does the head gasket leak onto the exhaust manifold, the manifold is above the head gasket? Do they mean valve cover gasket?

Unless it's not a head gasket and they misdiagnosed an antifreeze leak from around an exhaust stud that threads into a water passage, I've seen a leak like that but never a head gasket on a big block Mopar leaking coolant out towards the manifolds. I've had a 340 blow a head gasket out towards the manifold but that was from the combustion chamber not coolant. Or as I stated earlier in this thread, possibly a crack in the head.

By the way I still want this damn car, it's just getting a little too expensive for me to even consider. I have a guy interested in my Road Runner but I doubt even if he does take it that I would see the money before this auction ends and even so this car is getting bid out of what I consider a reasonable price for a car that needs the kind of work this one appears to need to be put back "correct". That leaking "head gasket" is also possibly a scarier issue then it may appear to be.

Man am I obsessing about this car, anyone else notice the split bench front seat? I checked the other '73 CHP's pics but it has a straight bench.
