I don't actually own this car anymore, but I'd like to post this little tribute. Some of you might remember seeing the car on Blues Brothers Central ... This was my first car, an '89 Crown Vic P72 (my username "2FAB" is the start of the VIN). It was originally assigned to a federal marshal here in Western New York. I was at least its 3rd civilian owner, and bought it in 1999 for the same price Elwood paid in BB2K ($500). From the interior, you would have never guessed it was a police package, except for the 140 speedo. But there was no mistaking it from the outside, with the narrow rocker moldings, dog-dish hubcaps, spotlight, and push bars (actually, I added the push bars). I decided early on that it looked too good in all-black to repaint it as a BB2K Blumo, but it still had the spirit, and people definitely "got it." I did eventually add the "1445" graphic to the trunklid, though. Here, some "temporary roof graphics" ... I loved this car ... had it for just about 12 years, but everything it needed would have cost much more than another, more solid 88-91. I hope to get another and give it the full BB2K treatment.

Wow, Dan-O, I didn't know you had to part ways with your beloved P72. I always liked your car and you gave us some great pics over the years. Gotta love the temporary roof graphics, a bit of fun with the Rochester snow. I've grown very fond of the P72 Crown Victoria, I think they're beautiful cop cars. Here's hoping you find another nice one soon. Looking at the ones posted at this site there are definitely some bargains still around.

Thanks, Steam. The old Vics don't seem to be very collectible. Even some P72s that seem to be in nice shape go pretty cheap. I just bought this 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis with 66k miles. Even though it's not black or black-and-white, I'm digging the color. I'll be getting some police-style hubcaps and ditching the whitewalls. This car went on Craigslist late Wednesday night and it was in my driveway by about noon on Friday. And the seller was less than a mile away! [edit -- adding updated photo]

Some of you guys might get a kick out of this ... I did. Today I put some gas in my new "Blue-smobile" (pictured above) for the first time. Twenty bucks doesn't buy a lot of gas these days, but the number of gallons it got rang a bell ... yep, 5.29 gallons. As for the whitewall tires I mentioned above, I think for now I'm just going to put some black acrylic paint on there!

I know its probably more of a pain in the bum than painting, but my tires on my caddy had white walls on one side and not the other. Worth a look if you're savvy with changing a tire!

Very nice P72 Vic! I have always been a big fan of the 80's-early 90's crown vics, too bad you had to let it go.
