There were a couple water drop sized spots on the timing cover, where the paint didnt wanna stick. I sprayed it down with some engine degreaser before hand.. Looks like I really gotta make sure its clean! Luckily though, those couple spots are hidden behind the pump. Get some lacquer thinner and wipe / spray it down with that before paint. Engine degreaser will leave some residue, while it looks clean there may be some oils left behind that will cause "fish eyes". Thanks Spanks!! I was wondering what else I should possibly use. I'll have to run out, and get some. Do you think mineral spirits would work the same/just as good? I've got a whole jug of that out in the garage already..

You can try mineral spirits. Mineral spirits are a little oily and it doesn't "flash off" like lacquer thinner. If you wipe it down real good with a wet rag of mineral spirits and follow directly behind with a dry rag, wax on wax off style you should be good and then just blow it dry with compressed air to get any residual out of all the nooks and crannies. I prefer Lacquer thinner because it evaporates quickly and is drys out all the oils with no residue, it just works quicker. But if you have mineral spirits already you might as well try it. If you start to spray and see fish eyes then just stop and head out and get some thinner. Just remember It is highly flammable but I have never had any problems with it.

Thanks my man!! I'll go out and get some. I'm tired of cleaning this engine! Plus I don't wanna waste any of the paint. The conversion mounts from shumacher showed up today. Look like some nice pieces!! Everything needed supplied in the kit.

Had to fix my vic after hitting a deer and fighting the insurance co to keep it. I went through that with my Crown Vic after side swiping a concrete post in a Walmart parking lot (pathetic, I know). They tried to value a mint Police Interceptor with 80,000 miles which never saw "real" police duty like a 150,000 mile taxi cab and total it, it was unreal.

Forgot to add, I'm using 16 gauge metal on the rockers. Seemed to mach the original rockers perfectly!

Some more progress... Didn't notice till afterwards that back edge drooping a bit. Idk wth happened. Had a hard time welding the do leg to the rocker. The weld wouldnt stick, unless it was set to welding thicker gauge metal, and that wanted to burn holes in the thin metal. Still needs a couple more wleds to the rocker.

I'm so tired of weak, rusty metal!! lol ^ No shit, eh. That's a lot of patching you've been doing. It sure looks nice to see shiny metal there once you're done, though. Was your Monaco a Pinckney car its whole life? I think you mentioned that somewhere along the way but I can't remember. I've read that Detroit was the first city in the world to use salt on roads in 1940!! Almost 75 years and we don't have a better solution for winter roads than salt?? Cripes.

That makes sense, as Detroit's business, and only business, was selling cars - so spreading salt around to dissolve the old ones was a good way to ensure repeat customers. Might not have been a great long-term plan.
