- Like our beloved K-code Mopars the P-code Ford stands for Police or Police Interceptor. For the Ford the P shows up in the 5th position in the VIN and in 1972 was for the 429 motor. Other codes for 1972 Ford fleet were the B-code for the 240 6-cylinder and D-code for the 302 V8. These cars always remind me of White Lightning which is an excellent movie, one of Burt's best. This one has a 429, said to be a police interceptor motor, but it's not original. However, the seller claims to still have the original 429 which I guess we'll have to assume is not running. ? Quite a bit more info at the link. - www.ebay.com/itm/116063515126-----

...the seller claims to still have the original 429 which I guess we'll have to assume is not running. ? One of the catch-all sites has an archived listing for this car from 4 years ago and it was mentioned that the original engine was running. - davidsclassiccars.com/ford/505771-1972-ford-galaxie-500-original-p-code-429-pi-police-interceptor-cop-patrol-car.htmlSo it was on daBay 4 years ago but I don't see any price in that catch-all listing and we don't seem to have a thread here for this ol' moonshiner. ----- Oh, so the listing has already been ended ? "...because there was an error in the listing." That was yesterday morning, no re-list as of yet.

- After 37 bids this ol' whiskey runner sold for $16,400 ! Not too shabby. ----- It's not identical to the movie car as this one is a '72 Galaxie 500 and Burt was driving a '71 Custom 500 but they do look similar. Here's Hal Needham launching for the barge ... As to why he didn't get the car all the way onto the barge, Hal says they did two rehearsals with the barge pulling away and he just assumed the barge driver was pulling away at full throttle. He wasn't, he was at 3/4 throttle. For the actual take Hal tells the barge guy something like, "Hit that throttle and wait for me to land." So the barge guy figures, ok, I'll go full throttle. Hal says that if wasn't showing off and going faster than he should have been he would not have made the barge at all. Probably would have drowned in that muddy water. Hal was a nut lol.
