Cool and all, but it appears to be the same model as before, only now with an eBay going price.

^ D'oh I completely forgot the 1st edition had steerable wheels ! I thought we were seeing something new lol. ----- The speaker looks better now. Elwood's briefcase and chain looks good but yeah same car, eh ? They were going for high prices for awhile.

Looks like the same casting as the Ertl model, did Ertl go out of business?

Looks like the same casting as the Ertl model, did Ertl go out of business? No. They were bought and sold a few times over the last ten years, and the product line was broken up among other companies. Round 2 owns their diecast car and truck subsidiaries, along with AMT, MPC, Polar Lights, and several others, and that's why this is the same tool as the ERTL branded first release. Round 2 has been doing a great job with reissuing older AMT and MPC kits with new parts and decals. As for ERTL, they went back to their original core business of producing model farm equipment for the industry and toy/collector markets.

There is now still another 1:18 version, not the one that started this thread. Figured I'd post it here since I don't know if it's the same casting or what. It's from KK Scale Models, outta Germany I think, with Jake and Elwood figures (different from the Auto World ones). Available with or without the roof speaker. Also available, same casting, Chicago Fire Dept (red/black) and Texas Cab (yellow/blue).

^ Cool finds, Dan-O ! Also available, same casting, Chicago Fire Dept (red/black) and Texas Cab (yellow/blue). Plus two civilian models. Also looks like the Jake and Elwood figures are sold separately. You're correct about these folks being outta Germany. I didn't find the option to switch the page to English nor could I see any prices but they certainly do have lots of interesting die-cast vehicles and stuff. - kk-scale.de/
