ISP cars were not DK41 vin cars, they were DM41 cars with A38 packages and 400 engines, they had ticket lights, bodyside moldings and regular civilian Monaco door panels. The Bluesmobile in the movie has regular civilian Monaco door panels in some scenes, a ticket light or wire, and in the extended DVD version when Jake gets out in front of the church you see two spots in the front half of the door where it's pretty clear there were studs or holes for the bodyside molding. The CHP theory is out the window with the fact the black and white paint scheme is wrong around the door windows as is the front door jamb and CHP used Roxul gooseneck light not ceiling mounted lights, and had paint divider trim on the sail panels. ISP cars were all white, that would explain the Bluesmobile's white door jambs and the fact it has no paint dividing trim on the sail panels. The other giveaways are the painted brown interiors where if they were CHP they'd be gold and not need to have a color change but ISP's had green interiors, the fact that they bought whole fleets of ISP and Chicago PD cars which it would make more sense to pull the '74s from them instead of shipping cars 1500 miles. Just some thoughts, I don't know if I'm right.

ISP cars were not DK41 vin cars, they were DM41 cars with A38 packages and 400 engines, I did not know that. My thinking about the difference with the door windows paint scheme vs. CHP was always that it was probably intentional because the Bluesmobile, in the movie world, was never supposed to be ex-CHP. Actually I'm not even sure now where that started exactly, that the screen used Bluesmobiles were ex-CHP police cars, maybe some of them were. I seem to recall someone mentioning that somewhere in the movie you can see what looks like a plugged hole, a-pillar interior, for a passenger side spotlight. But I would definitely consider the theory of pulling any 74's from the bulk buy of used CPD and ISP squads a very sound theory. There's varying numbers of how many cop cars were bought for the movie, the absolute maximum I feel is 60. So 40 or 60 it doesn't matter, there must have been some 74's left in the bunch in 1979, it would sure make sense to use them as Bluesmobiles. I also don't remember a wire in the movie for a ticket light. There's been some ticket light talk in the past, we never covered that ? What an interesting find and certainly adds credence, again, that some or more of the screen Bluesmobiles could have been ex-ISP police cars. Very cool. The IMCDb has a great ISP shot as their main pic for the Royal Monaco's in the movie. - www.imcdb.org/vehicle_20717-Dodge-Royal-Monaco-1977.html

I agree with the ISP theory, as well as the fact Mount Prospect did go to black and white in ‘75, so the film makers / car painters probably duplicated that paint job vs. fixing CHP cars. Nor to say a couple of CHP cars weren’t used, maybe the star cars? Doesn’t make sense logistically to ship so many cars from California when Illinois was ripe for picking.
