Hi Guys, I firstly would just like to introduce myself, my name is john v and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I have recently bought a 74 Monaco Hardtop which has previously been painted over to a Bluesmobile, but is currently making its way from the US to Australia.
I will post a pic of the car, and if someone knows much about the history of it please feel free to let me know.
The car came from Indianna, and I don't know much more than that.
I do however have a couple of questions, the car is currently running a 400 mopar big block, and I have noticed on ebay that 440's from motor homes are plentyfull and cheap, so my question is do they fit ok, I know that they are both big blocks, and most mounts should line up etc, but do they have the same sump etc. and of course is it worth going to a 440 over the 400.
Also, can anyone tell me if they know of other Bluesmobiles in Australia (I can't find any).
and finally, I saw a fellow who was making Mount Prospect door stars, is he still doing them ?
well thanks for reading the post and I hope to chat again soon, also please accept my thanks to the admins for putting together a great site for this wonderfull group of people.
all the best
John V

Welcome to the fold, John. That car has had it's own thread here, the seller never posted pics of the rust, but being from Indiana, it's bound to have it's share. Let's hope it isn't too bad and what is there is fixable. I would take stock of what you have first before planning to swap in a 440. Lots of police cars here in the US had the 400, which in the '70s smog era, was almost the same as the 440 - which only made 250 BHP back then in police trim. And the 400 looks almost the same as the 440, so dressing it up as one will likely go unnoticed. 440s are pretty common here, but not cheap for a good one, and shipping the 700 lb engine to Australia would be quite expensive.
The car is a hardtop, not the correct sedan body style, but not too far off either. Some owners have fashioned faux door pillars from aluminum strips, fastened to the glass with double sided tape, so when the windows are up, it looks like a sedan. One thing's for sure; you won't likely see another going down the road, or at a show.

Hi Again , and G'day from down under
Thanks for your replies and the help with the links and such, boy there is sooo much info that you guys have covered.
I have posted some links to some videos that the previous owner posted for me
Exhuast:
Warm Start up:
This video didn't get it as well as it sounded, bu pretty close.. got mostly the treble and not the bass.
Turn Signals and Idle:
Cold Start:
When I first tried to start it, it sounded like it wasn't going to.. I just turned the key without pushing the gas.
and from reading the post on the car itself I can add a few photos but I didn't have much to start with.
I am still not 100% on if I will do an engine swap for a 440, does anyone know if a 400 goes well with a/c and smog stuff removed, change over to a 4bbl carb instead of 2 bbl, decent exhaust and petronix ignition ?? any ideas on HP.
I found it incredible that for years I had never seen a ebay post for a bluesmobile, and then when I bought this one, there was another one avail in Louisianna, but it appeared to have bad rust in the boot (trunk to you guys) and was a 360 powered car.
anyway thanks for listening.
