Right before BBC went down, BM4YOU asked for assistance with shipping a Monaco windshield to Hamburg, Germany.
I've been calling around and getting a feel for what it takes to ship something like that. It seems to involve:
1) buying a windshield
2) delivering to packing place
3) getting it packed (crated for shipment)
4) delivering to shipper
5) shipping via air or sea
A windshield isn't that expensive; it's the packing and shipping that are killers.
But I found an outfit that can handle the complete job - Arthur's International Monaco Part Shipping Service. Arthur can ship it air, at cost at $955.10 plus only the small handling fee of a 1974 Dodge Monaco 200kph speedometer for all the trouble of driving it around and coordinating everything.
That $955.10 is the best combination I could find of buying a windshield, packing it, and shipping it. This is for air shipment to Hamburg airport. Shipment via sea was $765.00, although it was recommended against (because it would take longer, and be subject to rougher treatment). Even though both prices include insurance, several people suggested shipping via air because its a much smoother shipment.
So there's the cost of driving it around, but that's included in the "200kph speedometer" handling fee.
The only other options I could think of are:
1) is there no outfit in Germany that could make a windshield for < $1000? It's a straightforward bend.
2) maybe a race-car outfit could fabricate one out of plexiglass.
But clearly, a US made windshield, shipped via Arthur's International Monaco Part Shipping Service is probably the best way to go. :)
your friend in doing whatever it takes to wrangle for a cool speedo,
arthur
