This is the front of the 440 I put in mine. It might clear up some things for you.

Updates: Oil pan (it was a bit beat up--I pounded it back out) T-quad (I just cleaned this up some--if it doesn't perform, I'll rebuild it)... Torque converter.... Valve covers before (and after)...chrome, sanded, primed and re-painted... Block is coming together....it's actually father along today; I'll throw some latest pics up tomorrow... Rob

Hmmm, 400...I don't really know yet, as I've never had it in a '74-75 C-body (although it's original to the '72 Charger the 440 came out of). The 187 looks a lot like Art's 699, posted in the thread you linked....in which Rosehill MoParts's chart says that they are the same pan, through '73. It would be nice to know if I'm going to have clearance problems that can't be cured with a big hammer, before I get to that stage, however.... Rob

Of course I don't know anything about the oil pan clearance, I had just the drain hole location in mind.

Of course I don't know anything about the oil pan clearance, I had just the drain hole location in mind. I see your point... ...but yeah, now I'm wondering if there will be linkage clearance issues; I guess I can take some measurements inside the engine bay, to see if the draglink is going to clear.... It's rained here all weekend, so I can't get any measurements to check my oil pan. The good news is, my 727 seal set, filter kit and B&M shifter kit came over the weekend, as well as my oil and temp senders, PCV valve, oil breather cap, hold-down clamps, wire looms and carb stud kit. I've got plenty to do, if the weather ever clears. Rob

While I'm waiting to do some meaningful work on the Bluesmobile, I've got a question about the air conditioning system, since I don't know a whole lot about it.
I'm assuming the old system used the old R12 freon type refrigerant, and the new ones usually are the 134 type.
Can I replace all the parts with the old style a/c pieces, and then just recharge the system with 134, or am I going to need special items for the new refrigerant?
Rob
(....on a side note, I don't believe the Bluesmobile ever had air conditioning; or, at least Jake and Elwood never used it in the movie, did they?)

(....on a side note, I don't believe the Bluesmobile ever had air conditioning; or, at least Jake and Elwood never used it in the movie, did they?) Here's the thread on the blumo A/C: www.bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=screen&action=display&thread=525In the movie, whenever the A/C-specific vent of the dash is visible, it has the duct (meaning the blumo had A/C). The blumo had a non-A/C vent hole in the unibody behind the missing driver-side kick panel, but generally, I think the blumo would be considered to have A/C. The fall-a-part monaco had a non-A/C dash, but it was only shot from an angle that hid the non-A/C dash blockoff plate.

Thanks, Art. Let me re-phrase my quote: "Did the Boys ever use the a/c in their car, or did they always have the windows down? Rob

Windows down in the movie i believe... However down here in FL cant go wrong with A/C!! lol
You can run new freon in the old r12 unit. Just need to get.a kit from the autoparts stores to change it. It comes with a cam of oil to help lubricate the o rings that the new.freon wont do.
However since i assume its apart, you can change.the o rings and a couple other.components to be able to not get the kit. I used the conversion kit in mine, and it worked.great! However i have.a couple leeks so it didnt last long....

Thanks, Zac....that's good stuff to know. Yeah, I'm going to replace all the a/c parts with new stuff, since it's not that expensive (not sure about the compressor, yet....gotta check it out). All I've gotta do is work out a checklist of parts I need to replace. Rob
