Well, there are flippers, and then there are utterly shameless flippers. And then there's that guy.

That's just crazy. I hate to see others so shamelessly trying to profit off of the work of others. If you want to ask that for your car, fine, but there's only so much that can be expected before it becomes sheer robbery.
Incidentally, their ad is one of the worst that I've seen in terms of selling a car. It says next to nothing about the car and is a series of pandering movie references.

I agree, if someone bought and paid for it, go ahead and put a million dollar price tag on it if you wish. But... and this is just me... 1... Don't tell the person that you bought it from that you want it because you... "love the Blues Brothers"... or, "always wanted a car like this", when what you are really thinking is ... "What a sucker, I'm going to make a killing off of your work". And 2... If you are going to try and make a 300 percent profit or more, (like we've seen in Texas, Michigan and now Kansas... and a couple others over the years) do something to improve the car. Fix the rip in the seat, dye the dashboard, fix the rust on the fender... fill the spare tire... something. It's a free country, but what bugs me the most about these flippers is that the previous owner didn't rip them off... why do they need to try and rip off the next person? For me, it's a question of character. Thank you and good night!

If this guy can get that kind of money for it more power to him. He bought it for what the seller thought or felt was a reasonable price and added it to his collection. Maybe he doesn't really want to sell it but for business purposes, insurance, titling, registration and taxes (maybe even his wife! lol) it has to be part of his "inventory" and therefor "for sale".
The way I see it as long as he is not trying to pawn it off as an original movie car then its fair game. We are unique around here that we are passionate about the cars but we all possess at least some ability or means to do all the restoration / replica work ourselves. Lots of people may want to own a Blumo but don't have the ability or knowhow to do the work themselves. If I had someone come to me (and I do this kind of stuff professionally) and ask me to build them that car, it would easily cost them that much by the time I figure time and materials with a reasonable profit. When you are not a business owner it is easy to forget the importance of profit. It's what makes our world go around, and what provides each and everyone of us a paycheck.
Its funny when I watch these car flip shows (fast-n-loud or Texas car wars) on tv and even the Picker guys. I honestly have no idea how those guys make any money. Granted I don't know how they figure the true "cost" of the build, like how do they calculate the labor cost?Anyway, without getting 40-50% (basically double your money) on each job there is no way to sustain that business long term unless you and your employees like working for free. IMHO the Picker guys cant even cover the fuel and travel expenses in that Mercedes van.
..........sorry if this sounds like a rant, It's just that I struggle with this daily trying to maintain profitability or just break even in my business.......

There's a simple answer to that: TV Show.

The shows you mention seem to be getting pretty popular. I can't stand the texas show! Granted I know they are picking these junk cars up for next to nothing.. but damn do they do same shitty work haha. I do like the fast and loud show though! They seem to do everything from mild-complete custom's, to restoration-and/or preservation. Plus they keep it interesting lol. With the bluesmobile, im in the same group as everyone else. Let the guy sell it for whatever. As long as he doesn't try to claim it as an original screen used car, or take credit for building it. Hell besides the point, I remember seeing these cars all day long for sale between $300-to the nicest example of $4000. Now were are almost reaching low 20k's. WTF haha. A blumo used to be cheap. Man elwood has no chance in driving around in one! He's gonna have to roll around in a little prius nowadays!

Hay don't knock it until you try it. Nice car, will run 100 mph on the highway, I avg 52 mpg, and my fuel cost is less than $35 per month. Too bad they cost about as much as nice Monacos these days. I like fast-n-loud as well. They do put together some cool stuff, I just think he needs to make more money.

I hate Barrette - Jackson . There the reason you cant afford any big 3 , late 60 / early 70 2 door . That could of been offered as a muscle car . Clones going for more than the actual cars . Example - 70 chevelle , 6 cyl , auto , needs total restoration , been sitting for 18yrs in backyard with with no windows and currently home to mother natures finest .... $ 7500 . When in reality its worth it weight in scrap .
