This speaker looks the nuts, how did they build that??? Is it from a mold or plastics factory? Attachments:

That car belongs to "texasblumo1" here on the forum. My first guess, much like the Blumo in Japan, is fiberglass.

I'm not a big fan of speaker props but, that is one damn nice looking speaker!

Yeah I've never been a fan either, it wasn't a significant part of the movie and spent so little time on the car, and never in a chase scene I could never understand why so many people have them (no offense to those who do intended).

Everyone who I tell that I'm building a Blumo asks if I'm going to 'put that big speaker on top?' I tell them no, but if I built one that looks this good I would definitely be proud of it and cruise with it and take it to car shows!

Ooh dear sorry but I'll be building a speaker for your old car lol. Everyone's been asking me too "you going to put that big speaker on it?" I'll make one just for local shows as I don't fancy driving to far with it on and it does detract from the awesome coolness of a Monaco. Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

Same deal, we don't have a speaker and don't really plan on getting one, but it's the number-one question we're asked everywhere we go... it's just a very memorable feature to folks!

SORRY for being away for so long, but I'm back! I joke that my BMOB is "the car that ruined my life", but honestly I've never had more fun. We used our Bluesmobile for parades & car shows a LOT back around 2003 - 2010 (as it was also my daily driver from 2003 - 2014, NOT kidding!) But the car show gigs led to us being asked to "sing & dance" so we bought some PA equipment back in 2010 and did a "track show" with karaoke tracks at some smaller events for a year or two. Then, I was trying to get into a really big local event in 2012 and the organizer said that "Man, I would LOVE to have the Blues Brothers there, but I'd get hung for having a track show here! If only if you had a REAL band...". So, a Craigslist ad gets answered and the next thing that I know I'm managing an 8 piece band complete with horns and keyboards and we're doing BIG events like Hampton Bay Days, the Chesapeake Jubilee, the Isle of Wight County Fair, etc.... and I have NO time for my car projects. (Look for ShotgunBluesBrotherhood.com and you'll see what I mean. )
BUT - the speaker was an integral part of having the car, because when we'd do a parade we could announce "tonight... one night only...." and we'd do it just like the movie. If we saw a pretty girl we'd do the "and, uh... it's Ladies Night tonight..." and they'd smile. When we had the band and were doing an outdoor show or festival, we'd usually leave the car there the night before with a marquee sign advertising the show (check out the "What you get" part of our website.) with the big speaker on the roof and we'd usually drive it into the performance area from offsite all while announcing "Tonight... one night only... the fabulous Shotgun Blues Brotherhood... soul, rhythm & blues, and blues revue... at Hampton Bay Days..." and drive up to the stage. The crowd would about lose their minds.
My speaker was made out of a plastic tub and 2 car wash buckets and a piece of old election sign (Coroplast for those of you who like knowing such things!) and a small PA speaker connected up to a CB radio that I got on eBay. The speaker fits in the back seat of the car, and the wooden base fits nicely in the trunk for when I drive it to events. Yes, I agree, mine doesn't look 100% movie correct, but it's REALLY light, and again, it fits inside the car for traveling. I can easily have it set up in ten minutes by myself.
The band and the car stuff were great fun for a couple of years, but I start to get tired of being on "the short list of people that are about to lose their job" working for defense contractors on the east coast and we decide to move to Louisiana to take what I hope is a more stable career path. Hopefully I'll get some time now that we're 80% unpacked in the new house, and the lawn & garden projects are starting to get under control here.
That being said, I'll try my best to re-post my speaker photos and drawings soon, and some other stuff that I've worked on for the band and for the car. Honest!

Hope this is in the right place. Does anyone remember over on BBC a few years ago there was a link to an ebay listing where a guy was selling a few complete movie correct air raid sirens? If my memory serves me there was 4 or 5 of them lined up behind each other. I think has was asking $1495 each. I could be wrong on that though. Just wondering if anyone here knows who the guy was/is and if any are still about?

Hope this is in the right place. Pretty damn close I figured I'd merge your post to here since those pics you speak of are on the previous page. Here's a couple of them ... Definitely some missing images in this thread, all of the links to BBC are of course no good now but I do have all of those pics scattered around in the photobucket universe. Basically just any pics of Blumo's with the air raid siren is what was posted, I bet an image search would find most of them but not a big deal really as some of the better pics are still intact here. As for what happened to all those CLM sirens above, I'm not sure, I never really did a follow-up on them. There's been a few more salvaged here in Canada, the Canadian Civil Defence Museum found these two (Alberta?) in 2014 and is rebuilding them. Here's a slideshow of pics showing them being readied for transport and subsequent rebuild ... And testing ... As for the eBay ones, there's a link in this thread for a siren forum and those folks might know where they are. I haven't gone through to look for updates there but if ya felt like it here's the link ... - www.thesirenboard.com/forums/CLM sirens should be in the 'Outdoor Warning Siren' area.

- I don't think we've posted this audio here before, uploaded to daTube 3 years ago, it's a test of sirens from the Vancouver, B.C. area in 1976. I've read a couple of comments under the youtube vid and elsewhere about this audio and for sure it's real and some folks who know their sirens can tell there's at least one Mobil Directo going in this audio but what you're mostly hearing is actual CLM sirens being tested.

- There's one working now in Alliance, Alberta. I'm not sure if it's one of the two rescued in Alberta in 2014 which you can see in a video two posts up. The siren community is definitely pleased with this effort which looks like has been running for a little over a year now. - www.airraidsirens.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28399
