See here: bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=police&action=display&thread=540for info on CHP seat styling. The blumo front seat is CHP style in these shots: Above: horizontal seam on seat-back, when Jake leans forward Above: seam on seat bottom but not in this shot: Above: no seam on seat bottom The blumo rear seat is CHP style in this shot: Above: seam on seat back but I believe not in this shot: Above: no seam on seat back I'm pretty sure we can see far enough down the seat to see the CHP-style horizontal seam if it was there. And it doesn't appear to be there. We need to be careful, though. it might have gotten blu-ray-enhanced away. The texture of the rear seat surface appears to change, that might be a giveaway difference of vinyl vs. fabric. There's this shot: which seems to almost have enough vertical distance to see the seam, but not quite, I think. What's going on with the front seat at Bob's?
To fit a keyboard that big, there'd need to be a huge gap in the seat. The seat is back to normal when they leave. I suppose it's possible that the film guys swapped seats during the sequence, but my guess is that they kept the seat, and had a fake keyboard with fur draped down to look like the keyboard was complete.

Is that a keyboard?
I had always thought it was one of those "Thick Red Shag" speakers Murphy talked about in Ray's.

I guess I just always had keyboard in my mind without giving it any thought. But heck, everything they had was carpeted: The keyboard wasn't carpeted at bob's, so that couldn't have been it. Maybe it was one of those tall skinny speakers. If it was resting on the rear package tray and the seat top, it might actually be able to fit without any movie magic. your friend in being in for tall skinny speaker, arthur

This is also the 1975 Monaco that they used, so it's entirely possible that the car had the backs of the seats modified for this scene; both to allow the keyboard to fit, but so the musicians and speakers fit as well. I don't know of any other time in the film that we can state for certain that it's a '75 Monaco.

True, the specifics aren't known, but in no other shot of the car can this one be identified; that is, to say, this is the only time a car with a '75 bumper shows up on the screen. It's also an easier way to identify this car; like how there's "mall chase car" and "jump car" I've taken to calling this one "'75 Monaco" since there's more than one car seen at the Country Bunker.

Who knows what combo they put together. It's also an easier way to identify this car; like how there's "mall chase car" and "jump car" I've taken to calling this one "'75 Monaco" since there's more than one car seen at the Country Bunker. Fair enough. If someone said "75 bumper blumo", I'd know what they meant. Just "75 blumo" would confuse me. I call it the 216 blumo.

I also like to think of it as a '75 Bluesmobile because it means that all of our friends who have a '75 with a '74 grille can still say that they have a screen accurate Bluesmobile.

It's definitely a normal seat with one of the skinny speakers, it seemed silly that they would make a fake keyboard to fit over the seat or to replace the seats entirely to fit the keyboard, especially considering they were probably over budget already with the movie.
(I like being late to every party.)
