Just looked out my window and there are 2 county Sheriff cars parked side by side at the end of my subdivision. Car is going up for sale on ebay. This is outrageous.

SCMODS, I know how much you wanted to keep this one. I think we need to send scatpack down there, and have him trailer away both Sheriff cars. I'm trying to stay positive, and hope that things work out OK, whether its being able to keep the car, or sell it, stay in the hobby, and build another one later. /arthur

That is sad news indeed.
Well... if you do decide to sell it... maybe you could offer it up here on the board, before heading to eBay?

Goddamn those Indiana Nazis !! I can't think of anything else to say. Well ... I dunno ... I don't suppose putting Antique Plates on the car would change anything ?? The car is certainly old enough to qualify. --- Other than making a cover for the pushbars, a cover for the spotlight, out of service magnet over the 'police' on the trunk, 'show car' signage for the back windows ... sheesh, kinda taking the fun out of driving it but just remove all that stuff when you get to the show. Well, you're the one that's gotta deal with this, SCMODS, it just pains me to think these ***** can take a Bluesmobile off the road.

Yes I was also harassed by a OPP officer , because she wasnt clued in what the car was . 3 other cars showed up and they where all kinda laughing at the situation , but they had to honour her decision . Long story short , they must of persuaded her to let it go and make my sign for the back . Boy it would be funny to come to your neck of the woods with all of us in tow , kinda like another reunion . Maybe get the media involved , like here in Detroit they have problem solvers on fox 2 , that usually stirs up all kinds of shit .

That is extremely upsetting. Ken Dunn who has the 91 CHP spent a week in lockup because of his light bar and a few minor details. Everyone else nationwide says the cop was being a jerk and should have left him alone.
I would take this situation to any attorney or the media - there is no reason on this planet that your Blumo should be a problem.
I feel bad you have decided to sell it and wish I was working - I would have done whatever I had to do to get it.

How is it against the law to have a push bar ? ? ? Would check the laws on that... the (non-existant) star on the door... nothing wrong there... cover police on deck lid with OUT OF SERVICE magnet like above... and you are in bounds of the laws...

Ok, here's a thought.. Let's get a group of us BLUESMOBILE owners together, have a resturant host a cruise in that night, and get some media attention on it.. bring in TV and Newspaper, and let the public know whats going on..

SCMODS,
Sadened by how this turned out for you, With the car being just so old is really a laugh and a shame that they feel the need to harass you over it.

Well, after getting my car back safely (on a trailer), the great State of Indiana has spoken. As follows: "any vehicle painted 2 tone using traditional police colors is prohibited. any vehicle using an image of former police use, markings, badges or otherwise is prohibited". This is per Officer in command Fleck at the Indiana State Police headquarters. I argued everything from Mayberry to the Geek Squad and their response was, " Those vehicles aren't your concern and aren't your obligation. Your car is the one in question and your only concern at this time is to either paint the car a solid color, or discontinue use". Just FYI to any other Indiana Blumo owners. I argued that I paid extra for the plate on back that the state issued using a Sheriff star in support. The same state that inspected this car and plated it. No dice.

Did you find time to talk with an attorney? If so, I'm curious as to what they might have said.
I'm sure that if I called my local PD they would try and persuade me not to have it as well. But, it doesn't mean that they would be correct. Those laws are in place to keep people from impersonating the police and possibly causing harm to others.
I read a news story recently about a man with a 2010 black Dodge Charger that was busted after having Blue and Red flashing LED strobe lights installed, inside the car. That, I believe, is the kind of stuff they are trying to put a stop to.
I would also have to believe that a 37 year old "car show" vehicle would fall under a different category. There are more than a few replica vintage police cars in Indiana and they can't all be illegal. If they were, I'm sure that (for example) copcar.com wouldn't exist today.

I'd move. Seriously. If I were a Bluesmobile fan and I was told by the local paranoid constabulary that I couldn't own a Bluesmobile, and they wouldn't listen to sound reason of any kind, I would always have a resentment of them and having to live in their jurisdiction.
Now I need to visit the Mesa PD and find out if there will be any kind of that nonsense here, because if so, I'll paint the car with a nice silver pewter metallic finish and make it a replica detective car.
Or move.
