Some of you may have seen this in my Owner's thread, but I'm afraid that after 12 years it's time to "retire" BLUES2, our '91 Crown Vic BB2K replica. The poor girl's had too many New England winters as a daily driver. Fritz & I had a plan in place to get to work on the body stuff this year (quarters, doors and hinges, all manageable) but this last winter kicked her butt a lot and the mechanical work she needs is beyond what we can give her at this time.
The biggest issue are rusting rear fuel lines (and likely the tank) that are starting to leak a bit, you can smell the gas pretrty strong in the back when she runs now. Add in some other smaller things that add up (water pump leaking, a/c compressor, rear diff seal, signs of minor head gasket leakage which isn't a big deal now but could worsen)... we don't do our own work so gets to be a pricey restoration (likely north of 3K to get everything taken care of at our shop, BEFORE getting to the body work). Probably not a horrific project for someone with the knowledge, time and space to do all the work themselves though at a fraction of the cost.
So she's been parked (at our shop, not far up the street from Chez Bismo) and the reg pulled... would've preferred to keep her on the road until after finding a new owner but other complications made even that a bit impractical since I needed to register a new (meaning used) commuter car right away this week. But I drove her to our most recent gig last Friday night, and then gave her a nice final run Saturday afternoon before pulling the plates. I can say the engine's still solid, she could do 100mph as easily last weekend as she could 12 years ago... uh, speaking hypothetically of course.... She also just made a great road trip on March 5th out to Belushi's gravesite on Martha's Vineyard!
As I do have her parked up the street (no room for the extra car at home) I do need to move her fairly quickly, she'd need to be picked up in Hopkinton, MA. While she runs well enough the fuel lines are bad enough I wouldn't recommend driving her too far, best to trailer her. Also, do note that the odometer stopped working about 9-10 years ago, frozen at a bit below 85,000 miles.... I can only very generally estimate the actual mileage ass somewhere in the 160K range but it's a large margin of error either way. Other gaugers work fine.
Here's a link to the CURRENT photos I took Saturday, just after pulling the plates: flic.kr/s/aHskRhtPsF
I'm asking $1500 for her. Most of you know a fair amount of her history. I will include its current stereo, a spare 140mph instrument cluster, as many of the original stencils/masks I used for the paint scheme as I could still find, and the original dog dish hubcaps. Also four in-decent-shape all-season tires mounted on their own rims to go with the four currently mounted snow tires.
Anyone interested please just email me, bismo@yahoo.com... and interested or not I hope everyone will lift a glass to BLUES2 with me!
