I came across a used 1988 Crown Vic for sale locally which I thought was a P72. After checking the the VIN it was a P73. Interestingly enough it was the hard top with factory dual exhaust and front and rear sway bars, which I didn't think were on the base and LX models. The car was purchased from a older couple, who were the second owners of it and had it for 16 years. I did some research and it seems at the minimum the rear sway bar on the police package is different then on the non-package cars. Curious to know what the part number is for P72 sway bar. Although this car is not a P72, still was pretty decent for $700. A couple things I would like to know are:
Are there factory specs available on the web for the 1988-1991 P72 Crown Vics?
What was the standard tire size for most 1988-91 P72s, whne ordered or delivered to the agency?
What type (make) and size tires do most people run on the restored 1988-1991 P72s? I have seen many of the restored cars of this era running the Eagle GT-+4 tires? Where 15 inch wheels the standard on P72s?
I guess the wider rocker trim was also used on some of the P72s, although I didn't see this on many P72 models (on web). I saw references to a "street appearance" package -was this a factory option from Ford for P72 cars in that era? I also saw that the P74 models also came with police packages. What is the difference between the P72 and P74 police packages, is it just the appearance of the car? I know the P72 came with a 351 motor, at least in 1988 and 89. Not sure if it was offered in 90 and 91 though.
Thanks for the info. I probably won't do much with in the short term except add some new tires. The chrome dog dish hub caps might look good, but we'll see. The clear coat is pealing a little bit on the hood roof and trunk, so perhaps I will consider a paint job in the spring. otherwise the maroon paint is decent. I really would like to know what other unique options may be included with this P73. I was told there might be a build sheet underneath the rear seat.
