Before I get stuck into it. I need to fit the new sender unit in the gas tank, is it much aggro to drop the tank to do it or not too bad? Looks like you can't do it without dropping the tank Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

They arent too bad to remove, good chance to clean, paint, rust proof the top of the tank/trunk floor aswell. Also renew any rubber hoses and clamps, if they are still original replacement is due.

I agree with Christine's comments. I will add that it's much easier with an empty/next to empty tank. Spray some penetrating oil on the j bolts before you start to avoid breaking them. New bolts are available if needed. I just had to re drop my tank to replace the sending unit a couple weeks ago. I tried to get cheap and re use the old sending unit and it was not working. Ended up having to install a new one. When I installed the new sending unit the lock ring went in really easy. Once I refilled the tank it leaked like crazy. I ended up stacking two rubber gaskets under the sending unit between the tank. This made the lock ring hard to install but it was tight and no leaks.
I assume you tested the gauge to ensure it is working and tge sending unit is in fact bad?

The gauge is an NOS one and I tested it by grounding the wire at the sender when I had the car.

Must be from another year? I took the speedo apart to clean and repair pins so I made the guage fit better too as it was wobbling about lol. Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards
