Well, I did it. I've never been one to swoon over celebrities or follow them religiously, but when the chance came to get to meet one of the icons of all time (and personal favorite), I just had to jump at it. So, yesterday morning I packed all my stuff and headed out to Orlando at 7 a.m., and stood in line for 4 hours to see my Bluesmobile hero, Dan Aykroyd.
Ghostbusters were everywhere, but only a few of the blues 'faithful', including a really awesome Jake, in full costume.
It was awesome, when my turn finally came...Dan is such a cool guy to meet, very friendly and open to chat, even though he'd been signing autographs for 4 hours prior to me seeing him. "The Voice" is what I recall most vividly, as when I heard it, it took me immediately back to 1980 (that, and he's left-handed, which I never knew).
The high point came when he saw the sun visor, and Dan said, "Eh...I know what that is! What kind do you have?"
I said, "It's a 1974-75 Dodge Monaco cop car, just like you drove in the movie."
Then he asked, smiling, "Does it have a 440, or a 400, or the smaller engine?"
And (of course), I couldn't help replying, "'It's got a cop motor'...uh, yeah, it's a 440, and one of these days, I hope to finish the project and let you see it in person, and maybe even drive it, if you want!"
Hence his amused smirk on the pic of him signing the visor, and my shit-eating grin.
It was a fun event, and although hot as hell that morning (90+ degrees, and my wife is a trooper for enduring all this just to see some 'old movie star', lol, as she put it), I'd do it all again...and probably will, if he comes back to O-Town again.
Now, if I could only get Tom Hanks and George Clooney to visit Florida, my movie star man-crush fetishes would be satisfied!
