I guess the only positive thing to come out of not getting the 76 was Huey threw in the 140 speedo, rubber floormat, cop door panels, and 'special order' vin tags for the core support.

Early spring, 2013...After years of saving I am finally able to afford getting a new garage built. Huge pain in the ass, packing everything up and moving it to my neighbors garage, my basement and to storage. I was lucky enough to be able to store the Blumo at my buddys garage about 40 miles away. I towed it there on a tow dolly, it towed like a dream. By the end of summer the new garage was ready enough to be loaded back up. I didn't get much work done on the car that year, because I spent all of my free time trying to get the garage up and running. The Blumo fits nicely in her new big garage! My boys loved watching movies in the Blumo while I got work done on the garage. Maybe when the car is finished I'll take them to a real drive-in!

The wheels that were on the car were badly rusted and the tires were all different sizes. I had a friend of mine sandblast the wheels and I painted them satin black. I scored a set of like new tires on Craigslist for $100. They are a little small 215/70/15 but they will do for now. Eventually I would like to get some 15x8 steels from Wheel Vintiques and some 235 series tires.

You know what REALLY sucks? When this car was for sale on Ebay, it came as a package deal with another 76 cop Royal parts car. I could not afford to get both cars shipped so I told Huey I only wanted the 74. I still regret that to this day but It would have been close to 2 grand to get both cars shipped(the 76 was a roller, did not run or drive, they charge more $ if they cant drive the car onto the transport truck). I hate to think of the good sheetmetal on the other car I could have used or even making a Chicago PD car out of it. Oh well. Out of the 3 unity's, 2 are not complete, and 1 is complete. I have not tested any of them yet, I have to dig them out of the attic in my garage to see exactly what I have. I will let you know in a couple of days if I have anything extra that is good. I do remember that! In fact, that is one of the reasons I didn't go for that car, was the logistics of getting it home. Knowing what I know now, I would have bought it. I ended up buying a second car for my build and parts from a multitude of other cars.

That dog leg came out beatifully cynot!! Great work! Thanks, I doubted how well it would work but after trimming and fitting the piece about 25 times it finally fit really nice. I welded it in very slowly so the quarter didn't warp at all. That was definitely one of the more rewarding repairs on the car so far. I wish I had pics of the left side that Jon had built but I don't.

When this car was for sale on Ebay, it came as a package deal with another 76 cop Royal parts car. I certainly remember the cars, the auction, we had a thread going at BBC. Huey was one cool character, lol. He's joined us here a couple of times, he was living in Texas, in Austin I think. I'm not sure if he's still there, he's no longer a registered user on daBay. But yeah the '76, just for the sake of nitpicking wasn't a Royal, but was the base '76 Monaco. I sent a message to Mr. Buffalo Collection, years ago, when his blue '76 Monaco was for sale. I asked, "ummm, isn't that a Royal Monaco?" lol. He responded and said there was no such thing as a 1976 Royal Monaco police package, the only year for a Royal Monaco cop car was '77. For two years I had been posting at BBC and for sure I remember posting some '76 sedans and saying stuff like, "seller has it listed as a Monaco but it's clearly a Royal Monaco." Haha, yep, Mr. Accurate they called me. Great pics, Tony. The drive-in is very cool.

The 'drive-in' movies in the garage were great at keeping the kids busy so I could get some work done. They still bug me to watch movies in the garage!

Before the Blumo I had a 66 Plymouth BelvedereI. An old project I have had since '92. Unfortunately I came to realize that I would never be able to afford to finish the car the way I had always wanted to. I didn't want a rat rod race car, I wanted a show quality street machine. Yeah well the project took a back seat to a mortgage and my family, so the car sat for a long time. I hated the idea of not having something in the garage to work on in my spare time, so I didn't want to sell the Plymouth without something to replace it. That's when I noticed a brown 74 Monaco on Ebay located somewhere in Canada and the seller had mentioned the possibility of turning it into a Bluesmobile. It clicked...a cool car that wouldn't break the bank to build(that's what I thought). Who would have thought that a 4 door could look so sexy! I was suddenly very interested in finding one of these 4 door beasts for myself. I convinced my better half that if I sold the Plymouth and found a Monaco to build, I could finish the car for around $1000...ha! Boy was I wrong! She was on board and I was excited. I sold the Plymouth on Ebay and bought my project from Huey. I had originally planned a rattle can paint job, but my friend Jon convinced me to do it right. My wife wasn't thrilled with the unexpected expenses that were going into the car but she liked the idea of the finished project...a cool 4 door the whole family could enjoy(the Plymouth didn't have a back seat). For our 10th anniversary my wife had my seats re-upholstered for the Blumo...yeah, I think she's hooked too!

I also remember the brown car from Canada as well. I tried like hell to buy that car. It was a solid 74, tan interior and it had a 440. I offered that guy $5k cash, sight unseen and he wouldn't take it. I think he wanted $8 or $9k. Pissed me off. he found it cheap and was just trying to make a buck off of the bluesmobile thing. I often wonder what happened to that car. Looking back I should have offered $7000.
