Took the Monaco to the last big show of the year here and all we heard from everyone is police car comments. Out of 30ish people the I spoke to or heard comments from (we don't hang around the car)I think 2 or 3 knew what it was. One guy was taking pictures of the cards on the dash so he obviously knew, and a couple of younger guys seemed to know but everyone else made police car comments. I thought everyone had seen this movie. No one questions a General Lee and when I had my silver (not even black) '76 455 T/A all I ever heard was Smokey and the Bandit comments. Seems that people have gotten dumber in the last decade.

I have all kinds of Bluesbrothers and bluesmobile pictures and stickers on my toolbox at work and NONE of the younger guys I work with have ever seen the movie! Strange how out-of-touch the 'fast and the furious' generation is out of touch with old car movies!

We just did a Christmas parade last weekend WITH the big speaker on top of the really faded & dirty Bluesmobile, spray painted over the star, big P1 on the back doors of the car, WITH me dressed as Elwood, WITH the hat & Ray Bans on, "BLZ BROS" as my license plate... And still got a lot of "Barney Fife!" and people yelling "Elrod" or "Elroy". We even had a lady telling her kids "Oh, it's Men In Black!!!"
BUT there were a lot of people who got it, they laughed, they quoted movie lines, but the BEST was when ten people began singing in unison: "I need YOU, YOU, YOU... I need YOU, YOU, YOU..." so I leaned out the window and did the "In the mawnin'... When my soul ON FIRE...!!!" and they loved it.
When we stopped to get a bite to eat on the way home, we bumped into a 30-something couple who claimed to LOVE the Blues Brothers, but she proved it because she actually had a caricature of the Bluesmobile with Jake & Elwood's heads sticking out of it tattooed on her shoulder! Very cool!

So many of the shows I take your old Blumo too over here I've lost count how many people ask "so are you going to restore it?". Lots of people know what it really is though but it does get tiring explaining to people it's supposed to look like that and no it's intentionally not washed or polished!!! Next season I'll stick more movie pictures in the window!

The worse I ever got was a couple years ago, back home. A friend, and I were headed to a car show early in the morning. The fair was in town this weekend also. I pulled into the gas station, and we went inside to pay. There was a young couple at the counter. The girl looks over and says "I love your car! Are you going to run it in the derby?". As I turned my head, her man (with a very disbelief, and shocked look on his face) just grabs her by her shoulders, and walks her outside, before I could say anything.
I got pissed for a second, but laughed at his reaction afterwards. Atleas he knew better.
I always used to get the elroy, barney fife, and dukes of hazzard remarks. It did get old. I really don't go to car shows anymore. They have just become boring to me... I enjoy driving her more then parking her, and sitting next to her in a field/parking lot..
