- I had never heard this before ...
A key moment in the original Blues Brothers film finds the band dodging beer bottles at a backwoods dive where the barkeep informs them they have both kinds of music — “country and western.” Turns out, two very famous people were hurling those empty Budweisers.
Seems Willie Nelson and Sissy Spacek were nearby at work on another 1980 film classic in Coal Miner’s Daughter “They came over to see what the Blues Brothers were up to,” says guitarist Cropper, in this Right at Home Radio interview. Blues Brothers director “John Landis handed them a box of beer bottles, and says: ‘Throw ‘em at the guys,’” Cropper adds, with a laugh. “So, they did.”

- A recent article from the Minnesota Star Tribune.
'Soul Man' Steve Cropper spins tales about Blues Brothers, Otis Redding, 'Green Onions'
Steve makes reference again to Bob's and beer bottles .
Remember the scene in “The Blues Brothers” movie where the band is playing behind chicken wire in a club? It was inspired by real life experiences of Cropper and bassist Duck Dunn. The reason for chicken wire in bars was not so much to protect the musicians as to protect their equipment, which was property of the club owners.
Then Cropper added a piece of trivia: "Who was off screen throwing bottles at the chicken wire? Sissy Spacek and Willie Nelson. Why? Because they were in the soundstage next door making ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter.’”
