Anyone on here have any positive or negative experiences with aftermarket fan clutches on a 440 HP? My Gran Fury needs one and I don't want to buy junk and have it come apart and take out my radiator. Parts store parts seem so hit and miss nowadays I figured it's better to ask since a lot of you guys use your cars regularly. I'm thinking NAPA over Autozone or Advance Auto.

I usually prefer NAPA parts but I got 2 bad fan clutches in a row from them for my old JEEP. I finally returned the fan clutch to NAPA and ordered a Mopar one from the dealer that I work at. I cant vouch for a 440 but I wouldnt get one from NAPA again. Look into Mopar Performance, I think they sell them.

Parts store parts seem so hit and miss nowadays...... Isn't that the truth! Unfortunately with all the big box parts store chains these days price has become the driving factor for aftermarket auto parts. I don't care what the suppliers say, I don't care what the parts stores say.....price is king. Very few (like the folks on this board and others) care about quality auto parts, 99% of the time it comes down to "how much?" I have no opinion of NAPA, I have always heard they carried decent stuff but I don't have one super close, I wouldn't have a problem trying one of their fan clutches. Autozone is a no no. They have been working hard to improve their image on the comercial side of their business (I own a repair shop) this reps stop in often offering deals all the time. They have even been offering labor reimbursement on warranty claims, which is almost unheard of. Unfortunately their reputation is so tarnished from poor quality parts in the past my techs won't even consider using anything in a "Duralast" box calling it "Neverlast". I have had good luck with O'Reilly's auto parts. I have purchased many parts from my Monaco there. Just yesterday, I bought a reman wiper motor from them. The wiper motor is kind of boarder line in terms of quality but it is A1 Cardone, which is the same brand all the parts stores had and the only option I had. I have a feeling a fan clutch will be similar, they all likely come from the same manufacturer. Is there anything special about the fan clutch for the 440HP? or is it the same as a regular 440 or 400? I have a few fan clutches lying around but I have never studied them closely.

Mopar Performance offers a viscous fan package, part # P4120758. It includes an 18inch fan and fan clutch. The set goes for around $120 and I have seen it online at Summit Racing. My friend has the same fan set up on his 440 Charger and 340 Demon. Both engines are built and he says the fan does a great job, he would recommend it. Hope this helps.

I bought an Imperial (USA made) from Advance Auto, I had an Imperial fan clutch on my '78 440 years before these chain stores came out and it lasted as long as i had the car. I think i may also have put one on my Road Runner but I can't remember. And yes the HP engines had a "heavy duty" fan clutch, I don't know if it really makes too much difference.

The only problem with Mopar performance is they buy from the cheapest vendor (I work at a Chrysler dealer and have had good and bad experiences with their parts), the parts are hit or miss on quality. Your friend got quality parts which he's lucky to have gotten, the next batch could be JC Whitney quality, made in China junk. Hopefully the Imperial one I bought is as good as they were in the 90's when I bought my last one. Adam

I actually ended up using an Imperial clutch (made in USA) from I think Advance Auto. I went with a heavy duty thermal and I don't remember what I paid but it wasn't much. I've had Imperial clutches on other cars that I've owned and always had good luck with them.
