Galen Govier Little White Book Chrysler Corporation Production Option Code Book for 1972-74 cars gives:
1974 Monaco (VIN DM): 14,031
1974 Monaco Custom (VIN DH): 34,414
1974 Monaco Brougham (VIN DP): 18,226
These numbers correspond with the numbers Huey gives by body style:
DM41 sedan 4dr 9,101
DM23 hdtp coupe 3,347
DM45 Wagon 4dr 2S 1,583
DM base monaco total: 14,031
DH41 Custom Sedan 4dr 12,655
DH23 Custom hdtp coupe 6,649
DH43 Custom hdtp 4dr 10,585
DH45 Custom Wagon 4dr 2S 1,253
DH46 Custom Wagon 4dr 3S 3,272
DH custom total: 34,414
DP41 Brougham Sedan 4dr 3,954
DP23 Brougham hdtp coupe 4,863
DP43 Brougham hdtp 4dr 5,649
DP45 Brougham Wagon 4dr 2S 1,042
DP46 Brougham Wagon 4dr 3S 2,718
DP Brougham total: 18,226
D=Dodge
Price Class M=
Medium (base monaco)
H=High (custom)
P=Premium (brougham)
Notice there are no entries for DK (police) or DT (taxi) or DL (canadian monaco special). According to the Chyrsler Historical Museum, that information has been destroyed.
The Standard Catalog of Chrysler (SCOC):
www.krausebooks.com/product/standard-catalog-of-chrysler-cd/automotive
shows:
20,810 Monacos
4,874 Monaco Specials (police and taxi)
34,414 Customs
18,226 Broughams
but best I can tell, nobody has any numbers for police and taxi.
Taxis may have been only DT price class, but police could be
DK price class
A38 fender tag code
or neither, like my 74 Fury.
And we don't have numbers on any of those categories. It seems to be a popular misconception in the Mopar/police community that cop/taxis were "Monaco Specials", but a Monaco Special was a particular class of Monacos (DL) that were unavailable in the USA, and only available in Canada. Canadian Monaco Specials could have been civilian cars or police cars (but all Canadian Monaco police cars were Monaco Specials).
This site:
www.allpar.com/squads/dodge-monaco.html
says
> 4,784 were made in that year to police pursuit specifications.
but that seems suspiciously like a digit-swap of the SCOC's incorrect statement:
> 4,874 Monaco Specials (police and taxi)
Ford Jockey says
> 4784 is just about right for production my info shows that and with the taxi & flleet
> added in for a total prodution of a little over 8000. That is Monaco & Monaco Special as
> they were referrred to.
But I haven't heard anything back on where those numbers come from.
The only thing I think we know about the number of 74 Monaco DK codes is the fact that the CHP ordered 1,650 of them:
bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=information&thread=376&post=2142
So for 1974 4-door sedans, we have:
base: 9,101
custom: 12,655
brougham: 3,954
CHP: 1,650
other police: ?
monaco special: ?
monaco taxi: ?
Maybe 30,000 total?

to see the numbers on the Huey's BBC post, you have to highlight the text, so it shows up in reverse-video. Apparently there was some type of board conversion problem.
