Something seems odd about the pictures of the 215 mount Unity posted. It looks like there are extra humps on the back side where the mounting screw go. I see what you mean. This pic shows the double humpy (thanks for posting the pics, Steam): and mine, TK's, and Ghost's are all flat on the back: Mine: TK's: Ghost's: You could grind down those nubs, but who knows what else might be "off" about it (like maybe if you grind the back flat, that when its sitting flush against the a-pillar, the spotlight shaft hole wouldn't go smoothly through the a-pillar, and instead would angle off into the windshield). So we have two types of 215's. The one we know was used on factory spotlight 74 monacos, and this new type that Unity had leftover from years ago. Maybe the reason they were leftover is that nobody ever used them. Maybe they were prototypes or for some other type of car. Or maybe that's how they provided them to Ma Mopar, and Ma Mopar ground them down...

FWIW, Unity said these are stamped "215L"

Or maybe that's how they provided them to Ma Mopar, and Ma Mopar ground them down... Here are pics of my 215L bracket, as attached to the shaft on Marin County: Those two areas were definitely machined down. So my guess is that Unity provided the 215 to Ma Mopar, and Ma Mopar machined them down. But this adds a new wrinkle. Was it: a) Ma Mopar machined all of them the same way b) Ma Mopar custom machined each one to the individual car, so that it mounted to the individualness of the F43 reinforcement that was custom welded to each cop car. Maybe that's why they ended up going to an exterior mount (because the exterior mounting location was always identical, and the F43 reinforcement install was a custom job and required custom interior bracket matching). That 215 is a little bit of a tricky dicky. I created a new thread in the blumo screen details area showing various pic of spotlight mounts on the blumo. We've needed that for a long while, but I've just been too lazy to get it started. bluesmobiles.proboards.com/thread/1673/spotlight-mounting-on-screen-details

Good to see that pic and get the info. I hadn't purchased the 215 Mount yet because I didn't want to buy one that wouldn't work! If I just have to ground down a few nubs and know I'm good to go I'll get on that asap! Strange that ma mopar would order them wrong and intentionally have to file them all down for install...

That may explain the switch to the 216 mount in '75, though.

Strange that ma mopar would order them wrong and intentionally have to file them all down for install... Maybe Ma Mopar specifically ordered them with a big nub, so that they could custom grind them down to match the specific shape of the car they were installing it on. It would be interesting to compare known installed 215's. If the interior mount situation was just a matter of grinding down the nubs, and in 1975 Ma Mopar wanted to avoid the effort of grinding down the nubs, one would think Ma Mopar would simply order a modified version of the 215 from unity (with smaller nubs), rather than switching to an entirely new concept of exterior mount. I think this shows that there something else going on with the interior mounts. That may explain the switch to the 216 mount in '75, though. I think it explains a switch away from the 215 interior to an exterior. But I haven't seen any evidence that the factory ever used a 216 exterior.

Ghost's 75 copper has this factory exterior mount and chrome punchout: from bluesmobiles.proboards.com/post/10299And ARCO (ex-chp) 75 seems to have a factory punchout: bluesmobiles.proboards.com/post/1586We believe that the CHP always factory ordered the F43 spotlight reinforcements, but installed their own spotlights with an exterior 216 mount. Maybe in 75 the factory started giving everybody punched chrome if they ordered F43? But what's up with this guy? LV's 75 copper parts car has a hole in the chrome for a mount that doesn't seem to match a 216 or factory 75-77 exterior: from bluesmobiles.proboards.com/thread/661your friend in working on the puzzle, arthur
