That thing is sweet! As is! I bet it is a train wreck mechanically and structurally, but it would be fun just to drive around.

Isn't that a '73 Monaco?
* (Or possibly a 1972 due to the long bumper guards)
I'm also 99% positive Steam posted about that one a while back.

Now I'm all confused.
I'm thinkin' it might be a Frankenstein put together from a '72 Monaco and a '73 Polara.

The front end is definitely NOT a '73 Polara. It looks to be a '72 Monaco, based off of the bumperettes, with a '73 Polara rear end. For reference: 1972 Dodge Monaco from powerful-cars.com: 1972 Polara from moparmusclemagazine.com: 1973 Polara from dodge-club.net: 1973 Monaco brochure picture from dodge-club.net: 1973 Monaco from Photobucket: 1973 Monaco; formerly on eBay, photo courtesy of Steam: It's apparent after some investigative work that the front end of the car is 100% 1972 Monaco, whereas the rear bumper and tail lights are 1973 Polara. Why was this done? I have no idea. Maybe an accident in the car's past, who knows? Everything about this car just screams "stay away" to me.

Even more suspicious; I ran the VIN they provided and it decoded as follows:
VIN DM41K3D303822 decodes as follows: Description_____Interpretation___________Code Model:________Dodge Monaco or Polara___D Price Class:____Medium________________M Body Type:_____4 door sedan___________41 Engine:__360ci V8 2bbl (LA motor)________K Year:_________1973__________________3 Assembly Plant:_Belvedere, IL ___________D Sequence Number: 303822_____________303822
So, by VIN, it's a 1973 Polara/Monaco 4-door that came with a 360. Now it's a 1973 Polara 2-door with a 440. Something is very fishy.

Cool or not, falsifying a VIN is a felony. Ironic on a cop car. Isn't it possible that the VIN matches the rear of the car? Meaning, there was a car that was a 1973 Polara 4-door that came with a 360 with VIN DM41K3D303822 and then it got in an accident, and someone grafted on the front end of a 1972 or 1973 2-door Monaco, creating this machine. I think different states have different laws on whether this combination should have the VIN of the 2-door, or the VIN of the 4-door, or if it needs to get checked by the government, or get a new VIN. This car has all sorts of bad secrets, but it's not obvious to me that the VIN is illegal. It's the wrong number of doors. It's a bad paint job. It's a bad franken-combo. It's a bad VIN. And it'll take you down to beatdown town. It's the dirty harry of cop cars.

Not quite. The body has to be the two-door '72 Monaco that they grafted the rear end of the Polara to; there are no indicators that it was ever a 4-door car in the pictures. That's what makes the VIN illegal; the fact that it was transferred to this car from another.
