Reading up on Forzav's car show: www.bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=meetings2012&action=display&thread=971eventually lead me to this page: www.allpar.com/squads/history.htmlThat had a section: > 1974-1979 Chrysler Corporation squad cars ----- The Pursuit models were specially built police package cars that utilized all the "standard" heavy duty equipment normally expected to be found on such cars. But what if a buyer didn't want to purchase a regular sedan for police work? Plymouth obliged by making option package A38 available, effective with the 1974 model year. The A38 package could be had on any Fury I, II or III two-door hardtop, four-door hardtop, four-door sedan or station wagon. Together with a "special handling package," the A38 included a battery heat shield, police brakes, 140 mph calibrated speedometer, firm police power steering and heavy duty seats. ----- Heavy duty seats? Sure enough: You can see the extra section (with 3 springs) on each side. The Fury wasn't k-code or A38, but was all copper, apparently including the the heavy duty seat. I bet Marin County k-code has the seat, but I don't have it here to check. In related info, here's a thread on the styling of a police seat: www.bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=police&thread=540&page=1your friend in comfortable giant bench seats, arthur

You can see the extra section (with 3 springs) on each side. Is it 3 springs driver side and 2 passenger side?

You can see the extra section (with 3 springs) on each side. Is it 3 springs driver side and 2 passenger side? Oh yeah! I wasn't paying enough attention. I suppose the springs were to help keep the seat supported over time (and that a passenger didn't ride along 1/3 of the time), and not just to support a heavier load. Either that or the heavier cops always got to drive.
