Hey guys I'm looking for some help. Is there somewhere I could find what each fuse in our fuse box is used for I never got an owners manual in the 2 cars I bought. I'm trying to diagnose a frozen gas gage and want to see if the fuse is blown before I go around playing with the wires. It's for both my 76 and 77 that are frozen on empty.

I know that on the '74 and '75, the fuel gauge is the number eight fuse cavity.
The number eight fuse (on both years) also controls the:
Turn signals Backup lamps Flashers Oil gauge Temp gauge
* It's a 20 amp fuse.

Sounds like a connection problem. If the sending unit circuit is "open" it will drop to empty. If it shorts to ground it will peg high.

How would I check the connection I've pulled apart the dash but can find any wires or plugs to the sender?

I would check at the sending unit back at the tank first. It is one wire on the passanger side of the tank. See if you have voltage on the wire at the sending unit with the key on. If you do, ground it and see if the guage pegs high. If all this checks out, you likely have a sending unit problem. If you do not have voltage on the wire you need to find out why, either a bad guage or a break in the wire to the back of the car.

Ok so basicly I unplug the wire at the sender at the tank, then I use a multi meter with the positiv in the plug and the negative on a ground and see if it has voltage with the key on right.
