I would hope not. [inset plug for my stencil set here] Only 20 bucks more and (IMO) infinitely better. - The above (metal) license plate is from T.Bell, on eBay. You can get an accurate decal from "JKNLWUD". It is made from heavy duty vinyl with the proper metal flake.

So I had a few questions regarding license plates for our bluesmobile builds. Obviously BDR 529 would be the goal plate. Unfortunately, when I went to the DMV to ask about this, I was informed it isn't possible. California DMV will not accept any applications for a new license plate with a letter-letter-letter-number-number-number combo. I even tried all my options with custom, antique, AND veteran plates, but to no avail. ow I run into new options and I was hoping for the board members input. I've seen a few on the board that I really like, and I wanted to make sure that no one would be offended if I used their ideas. The top 4 for me right now are "ONAMISN" or "ONAMSON", "BLUBROS" or "BLUSBRO", or "JKNELWD", or "BLUSMBL" I think the on a mission ones are my favorite because before it's done it's a mission to get the car complete, and after it's done it's clearly the movie quote... Any other ideas? Or, if any members already have one of these and don't want me using it, please let me know...

ONAMISN looked like ONANISM with fast reading. PSZRDB?

I found an easy way to check whether a given plate in a given state is taken. Just go to carfax.com and put in the plate and the state right on the home page. (In Illinois, BDR 529 is currently registered to a 2005 Toyota Avalon!) Of course, it won't tell you if you can't get a 3 letter, 3 number combo in a given state.
Edit -- And it might make you think a combo is available when it's really not, or vice versa (see below).

That's pretty neat, but I tried 3 of the cars in my immediate family and only one of them pulled up...

Yeah, it looks like their records aren't always complete / up to date. I tried 3 in my family and they all came up, but so did my old plates -- and I turned those in at the DMV.

I ordered this plate , because they wouldn't issue me BDR 529 . It was supposed to be short form for " mall wrecker " . When I opened the envelope . it didn't look the same . Asked my 7yr old to read it , and she says " mall worker " the same as I saw it . Well good thing was the gov took them back -5$ and let me make up new ones . They turned down my other choice " MALLKILR " . Had other ideas as "BLUMO440" "IH8ILNZY" "440BLUMO" "SCMODS" ".

"Mall worker" is what I also read, at first glance.
What about MALLREKR ?
* It's nice that Ontario lets you put 8 letters on the plate. 7 is the limit down here. Eight would open a lot more options.

Florida is about to change their format to 8 letters/numbers, too...seems we are running out of 7-digit combos down here! Rob

I've got that one on the front of my 2000 Eldorado, except I added a white "74" in the upper right red rectangle. You wouldn't believe the number of people who see it, and ask me "what part of Illinois are you from?", lol. ;D Rob
