Hey guys. My original factory RV – 2 AC compressor in my Blumo took a dump the other day. It was the original compressor after all, and I think 40 years of service is pretty damn good! My question is: have any of you guys had any luck with a remanufactured Four Seasons RV – 2 compressor unit in any of your cars? I want to keep everything under the hood all stock, and I prefer to continue using original Mopar equipment. It's very hard to find a brand spanking new RV - 2 unit. However, the good news seems to be that there are plentiful remanufactured/refurbished units out there through Napa, eBay, and lots of different other channels. Most of these are offered for sale with a core charge, without the clutch assembly, which is sold separately. The average price of a remanufactured compressor is around $180, while the clutch assembly averages around $150, and that's for a brand new clutch unit. The main company that seems to refurbish/remanufacture these is a company called Four Seasons.
Have any of you ever dealt with this company and installed one of these reman' units in your cars? I thought I read somewhere, that these reman' compressors are shit, but I want to get you guys' opinions first. I know that this particular compressor was used on all Chrysler products from 1961 through the early 2000's, and it's a pretty good workhorse of a compressor, and is essentially a York 210. I switched over and did the R 134 conversion and retrofit. It was working beautifully and blowing very cold air in my Blumo, up until the other day. I've already replaced the condenser, all of the lines, receiver/dryer, dash switch is fine, checked all electrical connections and relays, but the problem is definitely in the compressor, which holds a charge, but won't blow cold air. When I did the retrofit conversion, I was very careful to evac the system at least five times, and took the compressor off the motor, and literally dumped out all of the old R12 oil. Replaced it with the recommended PAG oil. Tried all of this myself, then finally bit the bullet and took it to a trusted ac specialist here in town. Compressor is FUBAR. Time for a new one. I'd appreciate your opinions on the reman' unit.
