Hi, just finished my Bluesmobile this year, and I am receiving inquiries for renting the car for appearances. Has anyone on the board rented theirs for one, two, three day events? Obviously I would be with the car 100% of the time, but I have no idea where to start as far as what to charge for my services! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I rented ours out quite a few times and would love to talk to you more about it. Mine was also my daily driver for over 12 years (rain, sun, snow, shine) and I also had a LOT of fun talking to cops, people in gas stations, people at traffic lights even... I've left mine unattended in convention centers (for car shows) and at a few other events and no one ever messed with the car. ===BUT=== your experience may be completely different! After doing more and more events further away from home, we decided to buy a car trailer and we used to take the car to events "further than an hour away" on the trailer. Mainly it was so that I could be very, very dependable. When I'd say "I'll be there" on a certain date, at a certain time, I meant it! Even though it was my daily driver and we drove it to car shows and fun (non-paid) events four and five hours away, if we were getting paid for the car to be somewhere, it was ALWAYS there. Get a bad reputation for "no show" because your car is breaking down all the time on the way to an event, and the phone WILL stop ringing. I'd also get "classic car insurance" on it (I HIGHLY recommend "Hagerty". For my small collection of old cars & hot rods, they have always done right by me.) That way if something does happen to / from / at an event, they won't try to weasel out of paying the claim or try to tell you "it's only an old Dodge". I also have a Excel spreadsheet that I can email you that really helps you quickly determine a figure. Finally - I wish that someone would have told me when I first started is: Don't cheat yourself! I used to try to give people "a deal" so that they'd say "yes" and we'd get back home with a little LESS money in our pocket than we left the house with. We had a blast, sure, but only after we realized that we COULD cover our expenses AND make a little profit AND have a great time... Made it a whole lot better! Send me an email at johnvukovich(at)verizon.net (replace the (at) with an @ symbol, of course!) and I'll give you my cell number. We can talk faster than I can type! Above all else...HAVE FUN!!!
