BBC is backup and I have a chance to look at some of our old info on this subject:
www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum/topic/9022-oil-pressure-water-temp-gauge-wiring
and attempt to summarize what we know here.
The gauge is typically thought of as a police-only-gauge, but it was also available on taxis, and on civilian cars with the A32 trailering package.
The gauge looks like this:
installed in king-of-the-hill:
installed in Marin County (with bezel removed):
it directly replaces the clock (fits into the dash instead of the clock). Pic of my 76 parts car clock:
The back of the gauge looks like this:
Excluding the illumination wiring, the gauge back has four connections. While looking at the back, they are labeled (starting at upper left and proceeding clockwise): violet, gray, black, black (pic 1).
Violet goes to the water temperature gauge
Gray goes to the oil pressure gauge
Black and black are the same connection and go to the 2209216 IVR4 voltage limiter on the back of the instrument cluster
Here's a pic of the stock voltage limiter plugged into the back of the instrument cluster.
Those two black connections on the back of the gauge: you want to run them to a connection such as this:
Then you remove the limiter, position the oil press/water temp prong next to the prong on the limiter, and slide both of them into the instrument cluster at the same time, like this:
But before you do that, consider replacing the limiter with a solid-state version. The limiter is designed to provide 5V to the gauges. Here's some information about the limiter:

And here's a writeup in Mopar Action about how cool it is:
