- Johnny Sombrero (Henry Barnes) passed away last weekend, he was 81 years old. Johnny founded the Black Diamond Riders motorcycle club in Toronto in the 1950's I think? (*1951) Here's a small pic from 1955 ... Dan Aykroyd was living in Toronto in the early 70's pre-SNL. He owned a Harley and obviously became friends with some of the Black Diamond Riders and undoubtedly Johnny Sombrero himself. The clubhouse at that time was at 529 Jarvis St. hence the shoutout to the club by Dan on the license plate of the Bluesmobile! I haven't done enough research on the club to say what they were about. Johnny was respected in his community, but there were of course activities along the way that may have caught the attention of the police. Even as Johnny aged and became a grandfather, I guess the cops always wanted to let him know they were watching. 5 years ago when Johnny is 76 ... They kept his guns and after 17 months and 21 trips to court the 18 charges against Johnny were tossed and he got his guns back. RIP Johnny Sombrero - May 12, 1935 to November 5, 2016 Married for 58 years, 5 children and 7 grandchildren www.obittree.com/obituary/ca/ontario/toronto/ward-funeral-homes-weston-toronto-chapel/johnny-sombrero/2768040/
