Hello everyone! Glad to be aboard. It seems like the Bluesmobile(s) community has sorta dwindled from what I remember of 6-8 years ago, glad to see it still living!
I'm no stranger to the Blues Brothers - I grew up with the movie thanks to my father. It was our father-son movie, haha. It's always held a special spot in my heart, same with the Bluesmobile. My first car was a 4-door 1976 Impala, so I've always had a soft spot for the 4-door land yachts of the 70's.
So a little backstory as to why I'm on the forums-
My father got diagnosed with cancer in 2014, and passed away at 46 years old in 2015. So little ol' me at 24 became a home owner a little sooner than I would've liked - but it's been a sorta fun adventure so far. Still dealing with the lawyer, estate stuff, debtors hunting down whatever they can from what's left of my dad's world-ly belongings, and the like. So that's... fun.
A couple months ago, I got struck with the feeling of doing something for him. He may be gone, but I still want to do something for him, as he did a LOT for me. I hunted down the 1968 GMC that he bought when he was 15, which he sold in 2012 to buy the house I now own. There was some ideas I came up with that I wanted to do for him - with buying back the GMC being the first and foremost one. The current owners contacted me, said it wasn't for sale, they'd keep my info, and that was that.
So, here I am, doing what me and my dad talked about doing for YEARS - a Bluesmobile. It was his favorite movie, and for years we always talked about building a Bluesmobile. We came VERY close to buying a mint-condition '74 4-door sedan Monaco ex-CHP car, cop package with the 440 if I remember right. I remember it was tan with tan interior, and it was in California if I remember correctly. Was for sale in 2010 I think? Wonder where that beauty got off to.
So, next year after the dust settles and after I sell my 1973 Gran Torino Sport Cobrajet, I'm going to either buy a Monaco and get it built into a Bluesmobile, or buy a completed Bluesmobile. I may be from a automechanic family, buuuut it skipped me. So I'd have to pay to have the Bluesmobile-ification done.
And this would be my second famous MOPAR movie car! I have a replica of the Dodge Ram from the movie, Twister. I started the "Paxtonmobile" project right after my dad got diagnosed, to keep me going and to keep a smile on my face. And it worked! And wow this truck opened up so many doors for me it's not even funny. I didn't even really think about what making a movie car replica would entail, especially being the first person ever to replica this specific movie vehicle and prop. I'm now part of a movie car group/club in Missouri, and WHEW BOY has it been a fun experience! Also got our own set of Blues Brothers, who have both a 4-door 74 hardtop Monaco Bluesmobile, and a 74 4-door sedan Bluesmobile that they're building, of which I help out where I can (mostly just little stuff. I am an unskilled idiot.)
And now for pictures. It'll be fun getting a Bluesmobile next year, then I'll have two movie cars that are MOPAR's, and that have done crazy stunts. The Paxtonmobile having driven through a house, and the Bluesmobile having done a back-flip (amoung various things)
I look forward to interacting more with this community, making friends, and drooling over everyone's cars. Hopefully next year things will work out that a Bluesmobile will find it's way to my garage
