James seemed like just the sweetest old man in every interview I've seen him in. I really wanted to meet him. Bless him and his family.

RIP, James Best. Great actor. Last year I was watching "Wanted: Dead or Alive" with Steve McQueen, ran for 3 seasons around '58 to '61, and James Best was in at least two episodes. 20 years before the Dukes - and his characters in Dead or Alive were all business, he could really do that dramatic stuff. The first episode I saw him in I wasn't quite sure if it was him until he spoke, lol, then it was like yep, that voice. They liked Jimmy so much they used him as a guest star twice in the first season! The 2nd one aired January 1959, lots of interaction between McQueen and Best in this one.

Wow, barely recognizable in that show. And a pretty decent performance too.

Don't forget his multiple episodes of the Twilight Zone. All of them great. Personally, I like the earlier roles he played over Rosco.

Don't forget his multiple episodes of the Twilight Zone. I just watched "The Grave" aired October 27, 1961. What a cast!! Lee Marvin, James Best, Strother Martin, Lee Van Cleef ... The picture is chopped a little bit it looks like, to get around the copyright stuff, I guess. But it's very watchable and quite an excellent episode.
