Agreed, this is such a cool concept too, a merging of the two film Bluesmobiles! Markings are coming along great, man....

Thank ya kindly, Bismo. I got the second P1 sprayed. A bit dark, but that's sort of how the passenger side is in the movie. I can dig it. That was yesterday, but today I had my first bump in the conversion - and I partially knew I was not going to be happy with it before I even sprayed. But against my better judgement, I wanted to have some progress for the day, and sprayed anyway. I believe my "weathering" may have gotten out of control, and the characters, to me anyway, appear to be too tall. But that's not the worst part. Unhappy with the results, I attempted to clean them up with paint thinner, which I had used on all of the other stencils... it started taking off the freshly painted stencil, and to my surprise, the paint on the trunk off! Realizing my folly, I immediately stopped and let it dry. I then grabbed my rattlecan Rustoleum and attempted to "clean up" my mess, but the fresh paint did not blend very well (not to mention clogged up on me in my haste giving me some nasty globules)... Thoughts? Opinions? I know its a little hard to see in these poor photos... I'll snap some better ones tomorrow with the real camera. I was talking with a fellow car/prop builder buddy of mine, who said that I should not worry that the car is supposed to look like crap, to which I said, "Sure, but purposefully so." I know this is not a Monaco, and thus will never be 100%, but at the same time I would prefer to have it be as close as I can. With that in mind, tomorrow is a new day and the paint should be dry enough to know where I stand (hopefully evenly, ). I've reworked the pushbar blueprints and will be picking up the steel tomorrow, with the hopes to have it at least cut out and pre-assembled this weekend - just depends on how the trunk comes out. I may be repainting.

Your friend might be right. It could be a blessing in disguise, because of course the BluMo is supposed to be faded and weathered.
My suggestion would be to stand back, take a look at it from different angles and decide if it is in fact something that will continue to irk you.
You may find that it is/was upsetting only because it was unintentional. After looking it over you may decide it will ok.
If so, you're all set. If not, it seems that the only recourse would be to rough up the trunk and respray. But, even if you do decide to repaint, it is a large flat area, with minimal taping, so shouldn't be that much of a setback.

You may find that it is/was upsetting only because it was unintentional. After looking it over you may decide it will ok. That's great advice. There have been times that I've been working on my car, and done something (like painting the ammeter needle), that when I finally had it all done, wished that I'd done it slightly differently, and thought about redoing it. But then I often reassess and realize that I have a 90% solution, which although isn't a 100% best solution, it does move the problem from a high priority problem to a low priority problem, and it makes sense to only solve the high priority items... Unless it's something that will just continue to irk you. Country Bunker wants to replace his driver fender because it's old and rusty, even though I think it's perfectly fine and looks good. It's just an "irk" issue for Country, and I can respect that. I'm working on redoing the geometry of my front shocks, just because the current setup irks me so much. For your situation, it looks like it all turned out well. May the spirit of the blues continue to help us decide what issues are "that's ok", and what issues are "irk generating", arthur

Thanks for the encouragement, Arthur. I decided to leave it as it is for now and move on to other aspects of the car. Namely the push bar. My steel guy went belly up, so I looked in to other places... all of which had a minimum to purchase. After wasting too much time trying to track down the steel I needed, I finally gave in. Anyone need any a push bar? I've got enough steel for 3... Not much more to update with, other than half inch steel sucks to cut (as if we didn't already know that!). My band saw did not like cutting on an angle, so I ended up cutting the 45 degree angles with a vice, a reciprocating saw, and a lot of patience. They came out okay, but nothing that I can't fix with grinding, which I need to do anyway. In any case, I've got everything cut out. Grinding/finishing comes this week, then welding, ideally having it painted and maybe even mounted this weekend.

Standing back is definetly the best advice, I think close up my car looks worse, but if you stand back the whole shot to me is where Ive been satisfied w/ how it came out.
And thats how alot of people are going to seei t, in motion or even in the case of taking pics by it, it will be back enough. Nice work by the way!

I was trying to hold off updating this thread until I had made some serious progress (ie, it completely done) but alas, life causes many detours. I do have a small update - the pushbars were cutout and tacked together for a test fitting. This was three weeks ago. Today, finally satisfied, I got it finally welded together fully. Will have a real picture once I get it painted. I picked up 4 new tires and rims (sanded and painted already), replacement front grill and turn signals, and I'm still on the fence about which spotlight to grab.

Pushbars look great, DaD!! I'm still on the fence about which spotlight to grab. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of ... oops ok ok, wrong movie . I think there's more than one acceptable spotlight model for the Crown Vic. As you've read at the spotlight thread at BBC the Unity 325 was one of them. I think you'll notice that there seems to be more S6 models available on eBay then 325's. It also looks like the S6 is cheaper to purchase. Comes down to ease of installation I suppose. Keep us in the loop with what you decide.

Installed the new grill, lights, and tires, as well as the push bar finally. Planning a proper photoshoot later this week. Also have ordered an S6 unity light, hope to have it soon.

Last weekend was pretty awesome. One of my Elwoods tied the knot, and wanted the Bluesmobile to drive away in. We happily came out. The best part? You Monaco drivers ready to be jealous? I got over 300 miles on a half tank of gas ($30)! Highway driving, of course. Innercity, I used a quarter tank for about 40 miles lol. I finally got out for that photoshoot I've been promising.. but it wasn't nearly as epic as I had intended. Downtown Tampa had a huge event going on, and it was PACKED down there. So I decided to park it in my usual car-shoot spot and snap just a few, for now. Here are the results: As you can undoubtedly see, I opted for the lesser expensive pushbar rubber, for now. Also, the fella I bought my spotlight from suddenly did not have it... so Im back to square one. That's my update, hope you guys like.
