- These two were a great team. They worked together on so many movies going back to the late 60's, early 70's. As many of us know, these were the primary stunt doubles for Jake (Donno) and Elwood (Huff) ...
I noticed a news story about a stunt gone wrong which happened June 30, 1980, shortly after The Blues Brothers premiered in theaters. Tommy is no longer with us, he passed in 2006 at the age of 63. I can only imagine that scene unfolding. Charlie Picerni screaming for the crane, Eddy diving into the water so quickly he breaks a finger getting to the car. Must have been an intense couple of minutes.
I've looked at the trailer for The Private Eyes, and some other clips and don't see the stunt anywhere. It might still be in the movie but normally a shot of such an action sequence would at least make the trailer but I don't see it. The article mentions a 1936 Rolls but this is the car they drove in the movie ...
Is it possible the car has been completely misidentified? What year is the car they're driving in the above pic? I can't find this movie at the IMCDb. If that is the car that went in the water, it might have been the last scene of the movie where the Private Eyes discover a "Wookalar" is in the car with them, and you can see how the ensuing erratic driving might have led to the car leaving the road and landing in the water ...
Don Knotts and Tim Conway, what a team. Like Donno and Huff
