Thanks, TK. Check out this door pocket: from: www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1974ColorAndTrim-07.shtmlNow THAT looks like a pushbutton. It would have to be - there's nothing to grab onto to pull open the pocket. Regarding the magnet/snap design mentioned earlier, you know that little metal piece that has the middle "magnet" that I was referring to. I was chatting with Lurker, and he too thinks that the middle piece was an interior snap and not a magnet. His guess is that it was a snap, and before Ma Mopar got seriously into production, found that pulling on the door pocket, pulled on the snap, pulled on the metal plate, and eventually pulled out the two screws holding the plate to the door panel. So Ma Mopar just moved the snap to the outside of the pocket. Sounds like a good theory to me. And now we have this new crazy pushbutton design! Door pocket mysteries abound!

To recap, it looks like only 1974 Monacos had the driver door pocket. And we have pics of 3 different kinds: 1) standard strap: 2) strapless no-pushbutton: This was advertised in brochures, and seems to be the style in the blumo in front of the orphanage. Other than the movie blumo, I haven't seen or heard of this on any real car. 3) strapless pushbutton: I haven't seen or heard of this on any real car. We determined that the orphanage blumo pocket wasn't a pushbutton, based on this pic: but I wasn't sure of the the closing mechanism. I still haven't found a door pocket of this style, but I did find this info on it: from the Chrysler "Passenger Car Service Highlights 1974", Training Materials Department book. It says its a "glove fastener". I think that's the same thing as a snap: from navyaviation.tpub.com/14218/css/14218_234.htmfrom So it looks like the prototype door pocket used a snap directly onto two pieces of hard plastic, while the door pocket style we've all seen has the male snap built into hard plastic, and the female snap build into the vinyl strap: It doesn't seem all that different a setup. Maybe the strap allowed for slop in the tolerances when closing. Or provided some extra give to keep the pocket closed when taking a hard left turn with a door pocket full of harmonicas and spare lighters. your friend in keeping the research alive, arthur
