I'd guess that it was a higher-end option for an unmarked car; perhaps ordered by a higher-ranking member of the force for their personal use?

Some agencies go to great lengths with unmarked cars to blend in, it may have been an unmarked patrol car to catch speeders off guard or as LV said possibly a police captain's or higher ranking official's car.

We've seen the fancy ones and they were all P74's with police package. I can't recall ever seeing a P72 with the half vinyl. If it's all legit, (and there's really no reason to believe it isn't but I'd still like to see some tags ) it's gotta be a rare Vic. Rarer than a P74 with police package it would seem. We'll know tomorrow if it sells, $1,025 with 21 hours to go.

It's probably legit. I have a friend in MN that owned an 89 P72 unmarked MN Trooper car with the half top. I verified the VIN and have driven the car....and it had the 140 speedo and extra gauges. A really nice car.

Am I reading it correctly that those gauges cut into the passenger side of the dash were stock on P72 cars?

^ The cop gauges are correct. Was that standard for '89 and an option after that I don't know? We do notice them with the '89 P72's more than other years I think. Here's an '89 from Arizona ... --- The last auction in this thread didn't get any bids, Oct. 15
