Thanks LV, that is a unique color combo. I've never seen that before, it looks great.
Arthur's 76 shows that it would be completely possible to use the SEM camel on the dash parts and the Duplicolor desert sand on the door panels and be rather accurate. It the screen shots it looks like the door panels could be lighter but it's hard to tell how much lighter. However I know Blusmbl used sem camel on his door panels and Arthur is using sem camel on his door panels. Has anyone else dyed their door panels and use something other than camel?

Are you saying Duplicolor desert sand on the door panels is rather close to: 1) accuracy for a stock Monaco. or 2) accuracy for what the blumo was. I think #1 is correct. I think #2 is not incorrect. I don't think there was any part of any shot of any blumo in the movie that was that light tan color. Everything vinyl/plastic was dark brown / "camelish" (is my understanding). If we're just talking about how "desert sand" is close to stock because it's an interesting note, that's great. But if we're talking about how "desert sand" is close to something on the blumo, I'm lost, and please point out some pics in the movie and get me back on the path. thanks, arthur

The lighter color would be correct for a stock Monaco. I think I got carried away seeing the pictures of your 76 parts car. For the sake of this discussion, keeping with Blumo accuracy, dark door panels are the way to go.

Based on the screenshots posted here and blusmbl's pictures, I'm thinking of going with camel on a majority of the interior trim and door panels, and trying to find something a little darker, almost chocolate, for the dash pad and IPUC...

Based on the screenshots posted here and blusmbl's pictures, I'm thinking of going with camel on a majority of the interior trim and door panels, and trying to find something a little darker, almost chocolate, for the dash pad and IPUC... I think if there was a dye the same color as the stock dark brown, that would be a good fit for everything. Is it easy to get custom mixed dye? I think I'll probably stay with camel for what I dye, because: 1) I've already dyed most things 2) It's an easy to find ready-made dye 3) Although camel seems a bit too light, I'm not sure that in the end I would be happier with anything else. Here: bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=information&thread=57&post=5156I post pics showing how the outer edge of the rim of the steering wheel morphs between a light color, to a camelish color, to a dark brown color. I figure camel is as good as anything for the steering wheel. I still need to paint an IPUC, though. And I think the fact that the IPUC is metal (as compared to vinyl/plastic), it expands my paint options. Meaning, it is OK to paint metal with SEM vinyl dye, but it is problematic to paint vinyl with just any metal paint. I think I like your idea of painting the IPUC a darker brown color, which would match the darker brown color of my stock padded dash. But then I need to think about the rear defogger metal trim on the rear package tray (should it be camel to match the underlying camel package tray, or be dark brown to match the IPUC). Maybe I should paint the IPUC, package tray, and rear defogger trim all dark brown.

Is it easy to get custom mixed dye? Interior dyes/paints can be mixed just like any other type of paint. Back when I owned a body shop often time interior components of cars that needed to be replaced would only come in one color, and would have to be painted to match. Problem is it is far more difficult for the average guy to deal with. It has to be mixed with reducers and activators, then sprayed with a spray gun. It's not impossible just more complex and more costly than picking up a rattle can and spraying. We used PPG paint products, all of the tints were exactly the same as the exterior paint, i think only some of the attitives and top coats changed. I have access to all of the above, but would still prefer to use the cans of SEM.

I always thought the Blumo interior was tan, but according to the 1974 Dodge Police vehicle brochure, it would have been gold. The only 3 colors mentioned for a 74 Monaco Police interior was Gold as the standard choice or optional Green or Black.

You're absolutely right, Dodge didn't offer tan interior, the interior is classified as gold, but but looks tan. It's doesn't help when you're factory interior is 10 different shades of gold depending on which piece it is!!! Watching the movie closely you can tell the Bluemo interior is not a factory color. My guess is they spray bombed all of the interiors to help with consistency.

Yeah Brian, I think you're spot on. In one scene where the camera is shooting the back of Jake and Elwood's heads, the back of the front bench seat looks almost brown to me.
August 25th is going to be a big day. Joliet Prison will have a grand "re-opening" and Orland Park is doing a Blues Brothers evening. A car show at 5pm, and the movie will be played "Drive In" style at dusk!

Gold, light gold, dark gold, medium gold ... - www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1974ColorAndTrim-07.shtmlSo, gold it is! Maybe we started calling it tan based on one of the dyes or something? I've always said tan but I'll make an effort to say gold interior now. Here's a sample you can rub for luck ... Ha, that's a sample from the above link, also some gold seat illustrations ...

I'll be at Wizard World in Rosemont with the Bluesmobile August 23rd-26th.

I haven't had to time to look for interior codes, but I came across this '71 Plymouth GTX on Hemmings that describes the interior as brown/light brown. This looks close to the brown they used in the movie, which is probably pure coincidence, but thought I would pass it on. www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/plymouth/gtx/2078017.html

Orland Park will also be on Aug. 25 at 5pm. The Joliet Prison event starts at 5pm. Tickets are $40 online. Details at jolietprison.org. I think I’m gonna start at the prison and make it to Orland right before they start the movie.

Thanks for this info Steam. I’m going to do that exact combo of the gold vinyl and gold cloth for the seats, just like in the 74 Dodge Police car brochure. The materials were ordered last week. Should be done by Labor Day.
