My other 74 Monaco Ol' Blue I had purchased this Monaco just prior (one day) to my Marin County showing up for sale, ironically for the same price. anyways this is the Monaco from the Craigslist ad out of Los Angeles that went from $1,900 to $5,000. in the same week. I paid $3,500 for it. I was tired of looking for my police Monaco and had given up on the search. I had called on several Monacos only to get out bid in offers or the car sold from right under me by clowns! I had called for this Monaco and emailed him with no response! I also got the $5000. email and new number. I was thinking after all that ,I was just not destined to have a Monaco. I called and told him he was crazy! That I was willing to pay him the $1900 or even $2000 for it but that $5000 was rediculous. He told me that the new price was firm. I was desperate after searching for one for 10 years. It was a 74 with blue interior and a non hardtop, it was perfect for my CPD restoration, So I said my final offer would be $3,500 at most, If he fixed the a/c and put a new pair of tires on it and got it road worthy enough for me to drive it home. He declined only to call me back a day later. I know I paid a high price but at the time I thought it was fair considering what I had seen blumos go for on ebay, and how hard it had been for me to find/get one. Anyways so this one is mine too. The plans for this one are to turn it into a bluesmobile, enjoy it! Then sell it to further fund my police Monaco. I actually like the powder blue color on it! *SOLD!* bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=sedans&thread=930&page=1

My plans for this car is not to go the Bluesmobile route but Chase car! yes, I plan on restoring her back into her police car glory. I am undecided and have two options I am thinking of restoring her as! Choice #1 Chase car, turn her into a Chicago Police car like the picture posted. Option #2 My local Sheriff's department ran Frost green 1974 Monacos, so maybe a car closer to home? Both agencies ran the famous Mars bar,so that part is made up, she will definetly sport a Mars Skybolt Combo Lightbar. That sounds like an exciting plan. We can have your cop car chase down my blumo! I think all the CPD cars in the movie were Royal Monacos with hideaway headlights. So if you went CPD you'd be recreating a real car and not a movie car, and same is true if you recreated your local sheriff's car. Whichever chase option you pick, it sounds like a cool plan, and I look forward to build updates. And don't worry about it taking a while, I've given up on a timeframe on my car, and am now just along for the fun ride. your friend in plans, even when they take a while, arthur

chase Plan sounds like fun! Actually there was a mix of CPD 74 and 75's in the chase as well, here are a few stills from the movie. All the Chicago cars in the movie were actual CPD units purchased by the movie company. anyways I have along way to go to decide on which agency I will pursue. Thank you Arthur for the support and for letting me know that a time frame falls through lol. It will be a fun ride restoring her I am sure. Your friend in correcting your thinking about CPD movie cars, Jenny

My monaco has a rust hole in the same spot as your blue one, in the c-pillar. Is captain hook the ex-owner of the car?

wow ... Monaco heaven Great posts, Jenny. Thanks for the info on your plans for the cars. It reminded me of one of our German members, Jürgen, who did indeed make a CPD clone with a '74 I believe he's still waiting for a lightbar. He's got a 74' sedan Blumo, '74 hardtop Blumo, 1990 Crown Vic Blumo, ISP Royal Monaco, and the '74 sedan CPD, lol. Pretty wild, eh. He just needs a Winnebago! If you hadn't noticed his thread it's here ... bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=owners&action=display&thread=59Much better pics at his website ... www.bluesmobile4you.de/- Thanks again, Jenny. Sounds like some fun adventures coming up for you.

Ah-ha! great eye Aurthur! I don't have blue ray to be able to see the details. but you are correct they are 75's! There are several other 75's in the movie used by Chicago Police ,Cook county and Il state police. here are three shots! I have more but I don't know where to put them. My source for the info about the CPD cars being actual Chicago squads is the Chicago Police Dept and CPD sergeant Greg Reynolds! I asked the Chicago Pd if actual squad cars were used the making of the movie. I was told that the movie company inquired the city about purchasing some of the units that were up for retirement. I heard they paid $500-$700 a car and according to Greg "The film company bought 100 real CPD cars that had just been taken out of service that would normally have been sold to wholesalers" I knew prior to asking that they were real deal because they are way way to accurate to be movie cars! Jenny My monaco has a rust hole in the same spot as your blue one, in the c-pillar. Is captain hook the ex-owner of the car? ha! your right! Captian hook must like Monacos! but he needs to be more careful! wow ... Monaco heaven Great posts, Jenny. Thanks for the info on your plans for the cars. It reminded me of one of our German members, Jürgen, who did indeed make a CPD clone with a '74 I believe he's still waiting for a lightbar. Sounds like some fun adventures coming up for you. Thank you Steam! Your right haha all he does need is the winnebago and Murph and the Magic tones Cadillac! The Clone looks really nice and I like that i can see what mine would look like restored, But it kind of discourages me to make mine a CPD car, I kinda wanted it to be the only one! "Jürgen you should have used a Royal!" haha! That lightbar is indeed rare and hard to find! oh yeah! big financial adventures!lol! Two Monacos! Outstanding!Keep us updated. Yup two beasts of burden lol!I will try my best!

The self proclaimed BluMo hater. Yes, that guy! I will admit that I was a self proclaimed Blumo hater as well!*Gasp* This was only just prior of me finding this forum! He is a police car fanatic and restores vintage police cars, same as I do. The bluesmobiles are shunned upon in that hobby! I shunned them as well and was grossed out and depressed when I saw a Bluesmobile show up at a show or in pictures. I thought " poor poor car! that is so sad! why would you ruin a perfectly good looking monaco and make it look like crap! Why would you waste a 74 or 75 monaco like that, instead of letting some one like us who would restore it and care for it fix it up back to its police car glory?" I didn't undertand what you guys did and do, I don't believe he nor many other police car restorers do. I aim to change that NOW! Being part of this forum, I have learned from reading all your posts and comments that you truly do care about the cars. That you too are auto restorers with attention to detail just as we Police car restorers are. That in reality you are infact restoring a car correctly to your desired goal. That you are saving these fine cars from the demo derbys or the crushers or from being gutted of thier engines for hot rods. You all place a ton of money and time into these beasts of burden, you spend time collecting the accurate pieces and props. Its not just taking a can of flat black and white paint to a Monaco as we in the police car world believed, its much more! We are no different from each other. I have truly admired and appreciated all you have done to these cars, your Bluesmobile builds thread is fantastic! I give you my "Thanks!" The 100 cars purchased might be a newspaper qoute, who knows? but he does work fo CPD and is a police car fanatic who would care about that, so I continue to believe him.

Not gonna lie to you jenny.. I absolutely despise the cop car guy's. The group is full of a bunch of arrogant prick's. They act as if their shit don't stink. The best part about it is, a lot of those car's seem to be normal civilian car's done up as cop car's as well. What is the differnece? They have shiny paint?
Back in 2010 a bunch of us gathered in chicago for the 30th anniversary. of the film. We attended the CEVS. Got treated like complete crap. I lost all respect for them there.. However this is not to say they are all bad! I deff met some nice people out of the bunch. However it still left a bad taste in my mouth.
Thank you for coming out, and for the kind words! Glad to see someone from there coming over, and getting into it. But leave the Nazis over there! lol
Love both the cars! Personally, IMO I think it would be cool to restore the marin county car back to it's formal glory. I think the color's look good, and it would do the car justice. However the choice is yours. Deff keep us informed on whatever you do!

Back in 2010 a bunch of us gathered in chicago for the 30th anniversary. of the film. We attended the CEVS. Got treated like complete crap. I was with Country in 2010 at CEVS, and his report is spot on. At the hotel, we were taunted and berated by the cop car guys. Our blumo's were segregated and ostracized both at the parade and at CEVS. We were treated as mental defectives. Dave Weaver proceeded to tell us how his blumo was a perfect replica for the movie, even though it has Brougham parts all over the car. His Fire Chief Monaco is an embarrassing replica in my eyes. It has incorrect pattern vinyl flooring (instead of Mopar cop rubber flooring), a yellow speedometer, and a factory rear sway bar that came out in 1975. Our blumos aren't all perfect replicas, but we don’t claim they are. We give it a good try for the time and money we have. It seems the cop car guys just try to wing it enough to fool people (like having a rear package tray with the wrong number of holes punched for the speakers). I think one difference is that we blumo owners know we don't know, so we're open to learning. We don't know if cop Monacos came from the factory with spotlight holes if they didn't order a spotlight, so we make no assumptions. The cop guys guess, and guess incorrectly. We don't know about 1974 Mopar installed interior 215 spotlight brackets vs. CHP installed exterior 216 spotlight brackets, so we make no assumptions. The cop guys tell us there were no such things as interior brackets (presumably thinking that the CHP exterior brackets were the way all Monacos were done). This is your thread, and I don’t want to cast a pall on it. You add value to the board, and I hope the board adds value to your life. I just wanted to put out some context for Country's post. I think he's right to feel bummed about our experiences. And I’m right to be excited about you helping bridge the gap between cop car guys and blumo guys. your friend in Mopar cop car appreciation, arthur

I know what you mean, I have encountered them myself! But looking at it now I guess the only difference IS shiny paint and hubcaps! lol! I am truly sorry that you all were treated like that! Thats very saddening to hear. That is also not being a very good host at a show. I don't get much acceptance either since I'm female in a "Mans Hobby"! I get questioned on everything! I guess I am not allowed to know anything about cars or lightbars! I have even been questioned as to why I even own an old police car. I will leave the Nazi's over there, they are too hard headed anyways! Thank you for the compliments on my cars! I must say the green is growing on me and since someone else is already doing a 74 Chicago car I am really reconsidering it. Not gonna lie to you jenny.. I absolutely despise the cop car guy's. Again I am truly sorry you all were treated that way by the copcar guys at the show. Thats not a good way to run a function like that. I don't believe your cars should of been segragated but I must admit blumos in a row all together looks kinda cool and intimidating haha! I havent seen Dave Weavers blumo, I like the Fire chief car but the floor does bother me every time I see it haha! I think you guys would be way more accepted out here on the west coast , were just car people out here! Has anyone here attended the Menlo Park show? I agree with most of what you said and I get what you mean. I really am enjoying this board, thank you for your words. I agree you all have a right to be bummed after an experience like that! I hope to assiting in bridging that gap! Maybe I'll throw a car show!

Ok, so an update! I drove three hours out of town to catch an 8 hour Bus ride to Los Angeles to pick up Ol' Blue! 8 hours on a bus! ahhh! I then picked up the car and drove 12 hours home! The car drove great and did fantastic! It was a dream come true! I was finally behind the wheel of a 1974 Monaco! Yay! I was so excited and happy! I must say that I expected to be disapointed with the performance of the 360 in such a big car but I was actually impressed! The 360 pulls it well and has plenty of power to pass anything but a gas station! I can't wait to open up a 440 out on the interstate! I recieved lots of thumbs up from people while I drove it down the road and plenty of compliments while filling the tank at the pumps! Here are a few pics from my trip for your enjoyment! I was excited to notice that the left turn signal lense was missing the lense and the cigarette lighter didnt work , just like Elwoods! sucked not having a plug in for my cell phone. I also removed the Checker "Cab" hubcaps! Looks much better without them, in my opinion. Even though I wouldnt mind having some dog dish hubcaps on it for now. Over all I am very pleased with the car, but I will consider selling her if anyone is willing to give me $3,500. So I can get my Mars Lightbar and get my Marin County shipped to me sooner! I don't know about you but I can't make up my mind which Tank looks more bullet proof! Fill er up! or not!
