At CEVS, I mentioned that the passenger side inner fender (wheel well) was different on a 74 vs. 75+ I had this difference in mind: above, 76 parts car - notice stamped "hump" at top above, 74 - marin county you may remember these pics from here: bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=information&thread=91&post=256But then we got to looking, and Lord Vadus' 74 has the hump. I was beginning to wonder if Marin County truly didn't have the hump, but then saw that ChiTown John's 74 was humpless. above, ChiTown's 74 above, LV's 74 above, Country's 75 above, Country's 75 zoom-in showing hump more clearly above, 177's 75 Marin County has a build date of March 25th, 1974. above, ChiTown is Dec 5th, 1973 above, LV is July 24th, 1974 So John's is early in the model year build cycle, and LV is at the end. I'm thinking that the humpless inner wheel well was used originally, and then changed sometime to the late 74 / 75+ hump style. But when I started talking about this difference, people started saying, oh yes, 74 and 75+ are totally different, the 74 has the bar, while the 75+ has the plastic shield. And I looked at them (I think Country Bunker and 177ellwood started it) like they were crazy. But sure enough ChiTown's and LV's 74 have a support bar on the fender, that the 75's didn't have. Above, ChiTown's Above, LV's Notice John's is prototype-style stamped piece, while LV's is the nice, round, and looks like they put some effort into it. I didn't get a pic of the 75s. Rather than a bar, it has a rigid plastic shield (maybe in addition to the bar). All this was news to me, as I didn't recall either on my car. But my memory isn't so good sometimes. The best I could find in my pics were these, that seem to show that mine didn't have a bar. I couldn't find the bar in the parts catalog So I'm not really sure what was going on there. your friend in chatting about monaco differences, arthur

My green '74 doesn't have the fender bump, but it does have the rounded fender support bar. I'll post the VIN tag so someone can decode when the car was built.

I'd love to know where and when this car was built.

How'd you do that? I'd love to run my black Monaco as well and see how that comes out, though I find it interesting that this car was built later in the year than my Brougham and, yet, has the door pocket and the smooth fender.

Your sedan is super early in the sequence, and your hardtop is super late in the sequence. I'm starting a new thread on this that will explain more. your friend in fender tag breakdowns, arthur

Could the round fender support bar be the same as the support bar that extends from the firewall to the top of the inner fender?
If so, it might explain the change over. Just double up on an existing piece, rather than use two different styles.

Just double up on an existing piece, rather than use two different styles. Interesting. We'll have to do some measuring at the next CEVS. Now that we're getting the sequence number chart going, its odd to see that the earliest 74 Monaco (Lord Vadus' sedan) has the round support, then cars switch to the flat support for a while, before ending the model year with round support. I checked some pics I've saved, and see that king-of-the-hill has a hump inner fender:

It looks like the bluesmobile never has the fender support.
It makes one go, hmmmm.

Here's what the inner fender support area looks like on a 75 Monaco (Country Bunker's)

As far as we know, the driver-side inner fenderwell was the same part number from 74-77. But the passenger-side fenderwell could come in (at least) "humped" and "humpless" varieties. It looks like 75+ was "humped" while 1974 was typically "humpless". Lord Vadus hardtop is "humped", but his car has a very late 1974 build date of July 1974, so I think it got things typically associated with 1975 builds (such as foam backed headliner). King-of-the-hill is also "humped", and it has a late build date of June 1974. bluesmobiles.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=details&action=display&thread=164If you haven't sent in your Monaco info for that thread, please consider it, as the table is helpful for solving questions like this. So it looks like the switch from humpless to humped started around May 1974. LV's is a good example of "humped". It also has a distinctive circle to the left of the hump: Here's my 1976 parts car humped: as compared to my 1974 Fury non-humped: I noticed another difference. The 1976 has an indention, I suppose to add rigidity. I circle the indention, and compare to the 1974 Fury without such circling. your friend in comparison pics, arthur

Both sides of my '75 have a fender support bar; they're rusted to the point where they don't do anything, but they're still there. Driver's Side: Passenger's Side:

Ahh, that's very interesting, LV! I see in your owner's thread that the car has the lower cornering lights: and I see a bulb receptacle for it on the inside of the fender here: Maybe that has something to do why it has a bar instead of the 1975 plate, like Country Bunker's from earlier in this thread: ?? Your friend in exciting trivia updates, thanks, arthur
